Replying To cuttothebone:  "Something awful wrong with a system when either of these teams get in super 8's ahead of the likes Galway, Armagh or Cavan, but thems the breaks i suppose."
Meath have had better season then Armagh..Armagh and McGeeney are always hyped. A good team with potential. But Meath were promoted to div 1. Armagh werent promoted. Meath played Armagh in the league and comprehensivly beat them. Meath dominated the first half were 9 points up at half time . Armagh had a good 10 to 15 mins at start of second half but Meath took control and won by 6 points. Meath played by Armagh and won by 6 points this year , Meath were promoted , Armagh werent. Armagh couldnt beat Kildare. Meath beat kildare and should have beaten them.by comprehensivly by 6 or 7 points as they dominated the second half. Meath have better defence then Armagh.

In every ranking I have seen this year , in 3 of them I have saw Meath are ranked eitheir 8 or 9th in the country. Meath are not division 4 or division 3 team. Meath are a top division 2 team trying break into top 8. Meath are a top ten team. So to question Meath in last 8 seems a strange one and probaly comes from people who hate Meath football and want and need Meath football to fail. If Meath are not in top 8 teams in the country they are not million miles away Meath are top ten team and to say otherwise is usually someone wants and needs Meath to fail.

All below are facts. Not opinion just facts.

Since Longford game last year.
Meath went toe toe toe with All Ireland finalist Tyrone and only for 5th min point in injury time for Tyrone Meath would have won. Tyrone win in extra time in contervesey. Overall brillant performance by Meath against one best teams in the country.

Meath played two time Ulster champions this year. Donegal were strong favourites. Meath dominated the game til 63rd min in Ballybofey and were 4 points up. Donegal scored a lucky goal but showed their class to win game by 2 points. Another excellent performance by Meath against one of best teams in the country.

Meath played Donegal in the league final. Meath were best team in first half 5 points ahead at half. Donegal were the better team in second half and win by 2. Kildare played Donegal a week earlier and were beaten by 11 points by Donegal. That was third time in 2 years Meath went toe toe toe with Donegal and the difference between teams was the brilliant McBreaty and Murphy. Two excellent Meath performances this year against possibly the second or third best team in the coutry.

This year Meath have won 10 competitive game. They only won 3 last year. Tippearey and Cork comprehensivly beat Meath last year Meath defeated both team well this year.

This year
Meath defeated Tippearey by 4 points.
Meath defeated Armagh by 6 points.
Meath defeated kildare by 1 point.
Meath defeated Cork by 6 points.
Meath defeated Clare by 5 points.
Meath defeated Clare by 1 point.
Meath defeated Fermanagh by 7 points.
Meath defeated Offaly by 2 points.
Meath defeated Carlow by 15 points.
Meath defeated Laois by 11 points.

From those results Meath are not div 3 or div 4 team. Meath can beat every team in divsion 2. Donegal are not division 2 team. Meath are not in top 6 or 7 teams in the country but they are 8th 9th or 10th. Meath defeated Armagh and kildare this year and are ahead of both. Cavan and Galway would be close tight games with Meath. But overall Meath have shown this year massive improvement and going in right direction.

Meath defeated Armagh by 6 points ( one of the teams of the summer). Meath defeated Cork by 6 points. Cork are in the super 8. Meath defeated Laois by 11 points and laois nearly reached super 8. Meath beat Offaly who have their best season in years in championship. Meath are not top 6 or 7 team. But to say they are crap is wrong and comes from someone who wants and needs Meath to fail and hates Meath.

Meath could struggled in super 8. like Roscommon last year. But Roscommon showed this championship that playing Super 8 football and div 1 football is priceless experience and one of the reasons why Roscommon beat Mayo and Galway and are Connacht champions. Even if Meath are hammered in the three games, 3 games in Super 8 and spring in div 1 is priceless for these players and is worth ten years in div 2.

Super 8 will great experience next year for div 1. Meath next year could have 8 or 9 panelist returning including our best forward Donal lenihan. Next year Donal lenihan, Ronan Jones , Eamon Wallace, Joey Wallace, Ruari O Coilean, Niall kane , Alan Forde and Paddy Kennelly by chance should all be return after travelling or working or in college abroad this year. Also Meath have a very strong under 20 team this year. And there is allot of very talented young forwards coming through Meath at ages 17 18 19 20. James Conlon has been excellent but James Conlon wouldnt be the best talent we have coming through I would rate Walsh , Mitchell , Costello and Finnerty higher. So next year Meaths panel will be stronger.

For people who hate Meath football this will be bad news. But Meath are getting stronger and will continue to get stronger. Next season 2020 and 2021 this Meath team.will.peak and make its biggest impact in championship. We could struggle in next 3 games but it will invaluable experience for this Meath. And super 8 football and div 1 football next year will mean in next years championship Meath will make big impact. With players peaking eg Keoghan McGill McEntee. Returning players eg Lenihan. And new talent eg Walsh Costello.

Meath have good forwards and Conlon looks a real talent. But Meath wouldnt not have div 1 forwards. I would say kildare Donegal Galway have better forwards then Meath. But Meath had best defence in div 2. And Meath have division 1 defence. Meath have a better defence then some teams in div 1. Kerry and Galway dont have defenders as good as McGill or keoghan. Harnan would walk onto allot of division 1 defences. Blanket defences have destroyed defending. Players dont want to defend. Where are all great man markers like Tom Sullivan Sean Lockart Marc O Se gone.

Dublin and Mayo have great defenders. They can go 15 on 15 . So do Meath. Meath have been shakey at the back for 20 years. This is the most solid Meath defence in over 20 years.
Keoghan Harnan McGill are quality top class defenders. Keoghan is one best defenders in Ireland. McGill is one best full backs in Ireland. Harnan is a proven quality inter county defender who is still only 24. Lavin and Gallagher are out and out man markers. And are good ones. Ryan has been excellent addition to the backs. A fast hard tackling Summerhill Meath defender in the mould of other Summerhill defender eg Lyons and Mark Reilly. While Kane , Mcoy , Curran are all good defenders also.

Meath kept Dublin to their lowest score in championship match in first half in 8 years in leinster final. The last time Dublin scored so low in championship match was in 2011 v McGuiness Donegal. Keoghan kept Kilkenny the quitest I have ever seen him. And McGill kept Costello very quite. At least 4 of the Meath backs got better of Dublin forward line. They tired in last 15 mins. But Meath have a good quality defence defenders who are natural defenders.

Overall people read allot into Dublin game. Dublin have hammered every team in leinster by average 15 points in last 5 years. Dublin have hammered nearly every team in the country in league or championship in last 5 years that includes Tyrone Mayo and kerry. Dublin second team hammered Roscommon by 15 points last year. Dublin are possibly the greatest team ever ro play football. To compare any team v them is unfair. especially upcoming top ten team like Meath. look at Meaths excellent performances v Donegal 3 times , Tyrone and Meath excellent results v Armagh kildare Galway Roscommon Fermanagh Laois Cork under McEntee. Thats shows where Meath are at.

For the people who want and so badly need Meath to fail the super 8 could be enjoyment for u. But overall in the next two to three years Meath are going get stronger and stronger. They have the management team. They have some quality players peaking eg Keoghan McGill McEntee Harnan Newman Sullivan Menton kane..And have some exciting young talent coming through eg James Conlon Ethan Devine Dara Campion Shane Walsh Matthew Costello Aaron Lynch Cian McBride Luke Mitchell. And u never know Meath might do better in super 8 then people think. If Newman is gone that could be a massive blow for Meath. But Meath will not fear Donegal Mayo or kerry our record v all three teams is real good.

No we don't coz we lost to mayo and have had a poor championship but if we faced Clare or laois we would be in it and if ye faced mayo or Tyrone ye would be out its why I said it's the luck of the draw.
Was probably harsh on Meath with my earlier comment ye know it's going to be tough and will lose all 3 games but ye are making good progress ye had a good year ye are div 1 team now and got to super 8s so fair play and enjoy the win and enjoy the big days out in next few weeks

Well done to Meath and hard luck to Clare. Both teams gave it their all. Dont think posters should be overly critical as both teams played in div 2 this year and it was such a huge game for them, we cant expect them to be perfect. Some of the scores were brilliant, on the flipside the kickouts were poor. It was a really enjoyable game.

Meath have a lot of potential but they will get murdered on kickouts. Would they be better going long where at least it would be 50/50? Looking forward to the game next weekend in Ballybofey, hopefully a good Meath contingent will travel.

Kickouts have killed us since start of league and issue has not been addressed. As you said this was a huge game for both teams and Meath especially looked nery nervy at times, a loss here would have left us in a bad place heading into Div 1 next year. However credit must be given for grinding out any type of win after the disaster of Leinster final. Super 8s is bonus territory for Meath and a great place for these lads to develop. Not expecting us to have an influence on overall standings in group but still looking forward to next few week regardless of results.

Meath might struggle in super 8 like Roscomon did last year. But Roscommon have showed super 8 and div 1 football experience is priceless and one of the reasons Roscommon beat Galway and Mayo this year. Roscommon lost all games in super 8 badly and were relegated from div 1. But those 10 games Roscommon played in super 8 and the league this spring v top teams was invaluable experience for Roscommon and brought them on. It should be massive priceless experience for Meath. Meath could struggle and get bad defeats but Meath will not fear Donegal Mayo or kerry. Meath have excellent record v all three.

Donegal are always hot favourites v Meath. But Meath v Donegal are always very tight affairs which are decided in injury time. The last two times Meath played on Ballybofey Meath should have won.

In 2014 Meath drew with McGuiness Donegal in Ballybofey. Meath were best team for most game. But greatness of Murphy scored a wonder point in injury time to seal draw for Donegal.
In 2017 Meath and Donegal played a great championship game the lead changed 8 times. Meath were level with Donegal in injury time but McBreaty wonder point win it for Donegal.
In 2019 Meath were better team v Donegal in Ballybofey and 4 up in 63rd min. Donegal got a lucky goal and showed their class to win by 2 point. But Meath were excellent for second time in a row v Donegal in Ballybofey.
In the league final Meath were better team in first half winning by 5 at half time. Donegal won by 2 but again very close game between Meath v Donegal.

So Donegal will start favourites. And yes Meath have failed to beat Donegal. But Donegal have been one of the counties of the decade. And Meath have performed excellenty v Donegal in our last 4 games. They were very tight games won by 1 point or two. Meath wouldn't fear Donegal.

Meath wouldn't fear Mayo. Mayo have been one of teams of decade. But Meath are a bogey team of sort for Mayo. Mayo and Meath have played 7 times in championship Meath have lost once. The last time Mayo defeated Meath in championship was in 1951. Meath most famous win was in 96 final. The last game Mayo were hot favourites and Meath beat Mayo in quarter final 2009. Meath also beat Mayo in 1988 when Liam McHale had a great tussle with Mick lyons. One of Meaths greatest victories over Mayo was in 1967. Mayo were strong favourites after beating the three in a row Galway team by 11 points in Connacht semi final. In a great game semi final Meath beat Mayo by 6 points on scoreline 3 - 14 to 1 - 14.

Meath have a great record v Connacht teams. Meath have only lost to Connacht teams 3 times in championship in last 68 y ears since Mayo last beat Meath in 1951.
Since 1951

Meath have beaten Mayo 4 times( 1967 1988 1996 2009 ) and 1 draw ( 1996 )
Meath have never lost to Roscommon in championship with 4 wins from 4 games eg 1952 1991 2006 and 2009.
Meath beat Sligo in 2017
Meath beat Leitrim in 2005.
Meath lost to Galway in 1964 1966 and 2001. Meath defeated Galway in 1970 2007 and 2011.

So since Mayo last defeated Meath in 1951 Meaths record v Connacht teams in is 1 draw 3 loses and 9 victories for Meath. Meath have a great record v Mayo. We wouldnt fear them.

Kerry in Navan is a mouthwatering prospect. It will be great to see kerry in Navan. And Meath have also very good record v kerry. Kerry havent beaten Meath in Navan in over 35 years. The last time we played kerry in championship we lost by 4 points and the game before that we won by 15 points. Dublin Galway Mayo all traditionally have a poor record v kerry. Outside Ulster teams of Tyrone and Down Meath have the next best record v kerry in the country. In 80s and 90s Meath played kerry in numerous minor under 21 finals and semi finals. Meath won 7 games at underage v kingdom in a row in that period. Meath defeated kerry in an All Ireland final 50 years before Tyrone did. Again we respect the kingdom but we wouldnt fear them.

Meath might struggle in super 8 but it will be invaluable experience for Meath eitheir way. But dont right of Meath eitheir. Today was always going to tough game. It first time in 10 years leinster team won qualifier after losing leinster final. Scoring 2 - 16 will help confidence. In the qualifiers it all about winning the games. That victory will do Meath a world of good.

Don't right of Meath yet I cannot wait to play in Croker v Mayo and for Kingdom to come to Navan. This is where Meath belongs. It just feels right. We will give Donegal a lash in Ballybofey like we always do. Dont right Meath off yet, no one expected Meath to win promotion or get super 8 at the start of the year. People keep underestimating Meath. Many want and need so badly for Meath to fail their hatred towards clouds their judgement.

But the Meath haters cannot take this away from us , Meath football we love our football we are football mad county , we have great tradition, great players in the past and some excellent players and strong manager and good young players coming through presently. For people who want and so badly Meath to fail this is not whant u want to hear. But never ever underestimate a Meath mans passion loves for gaelic football. It defines us as a people. It in our blood, it our dna. Surrounded by rivals on every corner. kildare coming up from the south . The Midlands counties of Westmeath Offaly to the east. Louth and Ulster with Cavan and Monaghan bearing down from the north. And Dublin the Metropolis encroaching from the east. We are county surrounded by more football rivals then any other in the country. This gives us our identity us against everyone else. It gives us our fightihg spirit our never say die spirit. Slane Castle and Newgrange and hill of Tara are fortreses that need to be protected. Thr great land of Meath is always been fought for and this gives Meath a natural fighting spirit. Us against the rest.

Don't right us off yet. We are Meath and that matters to ten and thousands in our great county. We are quite people, but byjaysus when we are risen we are ferocious and fierce competitors, the fiecest toughest competitors u will ever meet. The blood that runs through Meath footballers veins is the thickest most stubborn most unyeilding u will come across. Hate us all u want. But we aint going anywhere. Meath football it just matters more.

Being in the super 8's may sound good but it is going to be a very long 3 weeks for you.

I cant see you getting to within 10 points of any of the teams in your group."
Predictions to date have not been your strong point,, you could only see one winner, Clare by 4-6 points. Being in the Super 8s not only sounds good its fantastic. Losing for Meath is never better. This is bonus territory for us regardless of results over next few weeks. Enjoy Tyrones side of the draw and best of luck.

Lets drive on from here.
Bring on Donegal now.
Who knows, expectations nationally and with some within the county, will be that we are just making up the numbers.

Brilliant. 3 objectives in January have all been met. I remember posting the 3 of them on here and was told that none of them would be achieved, we were told that if we didn't get relegated it would be a miracle, that Westmeath or Laois were better than us and the big one? We nowhere near super 8s.
To all you lot. Swivel.
We in bonus territory.
But what's more we are on way back much to many's annoyance.

Thanks cuchulainn it was by the skin of our teeth, ye poor enough crowd I can remember when meath used to bring 20k to big matches in the late 80s and 90s, the meath support seems to have disappeared unfortunately hopefully they'll all start to return over the next few years.

Delighted with the win today, thought we made it very difficult on ourselves second half with alot of mistakes, carrying the ball into dead ends and getting swamped out of it a few times, made the end more nervy than it needed to be.

Great to bounce back though and put up a decent score after the semi final, thought Conlon was excellent, lively all day and 3 points was a good return. Keogan was again superb.

Most expect us to lose all 3 super 8 games, that may well happen or we may pull off a surprise but whatever the outcome, playing Donegal, Mayo and Kerry in competitive matches will serve us very well ahead of playing our trade in Division 1 next year, it's experience that should stand to us. It's been a great year, anything else is a bonus and progress has undeniably been made. Have to be happy with that.

Everyone welcome in navan.
We in bonus territory, we have achieved everything we set out to achieve, the quarters will be for development going forward into next year been in division one. Brilliant. I'm absolutely ecstatic.
Roll on donegal, mayo and Kerry, the lads can now play knowing that they have achieved everything. So who knows. ? Might even surprise a few.

I really hope we can put some good performances in in the Super 8s. Huge step up but still not as bad as playing Dublin in Leinster. We need to go all out in these next three games. It's all about performances for us at this stage.

I'm particularly delighted for Dónal Keogan. He is the one top class player we have. Almost every game over the last few years he's our best player but cos the team has been so poor most people in the country haven't even heard of him. He really deserves a chance to showcase his talents.

In terms of improvements. We still need to sort out our attack. Conlon and Newman need better service. We can't keep relying on scores by running through the middle. That won't work against the Donegal defensive system. They'll do the same as Dublin and funnel us out to the wings. Cillian O'Sullivan has had a poor championship so far, he really needs to step and start taking on his man. The kickouts obviously need a lot of work and I still think we need to give our fullback line better support by dropping a sweeper back when the opposition attack. The fullback line has done very well considering how little protection they get.
