One Week Gap Between Mcdonagh Final And Preliminary Quarter-Finals

(Oldest Posts First)

It has been commented by many that there should be a 2 week gap between the McDonagh final and the preliminary quarter-finals.

I have suggested already that one province should have a 6th team. The McDonagh and Ring Cups should be of similar 6 team format.

The McDonagh and Ring finals should be held as a double header on the weekend before the provincial finals. The McDonagh finalists can then have two weeks of preparation ahead of their preliminary quarter-finals.

If only the counties involved can bring a motion to congress...

Is mise le meas,

The Legend.

P.S. The 2018 McDonagh Cup had 6 teams. It is the template.

Introduce the 6th team but, winner of McDonagh goes straight up, bottom of Leinster goes down and second from bottom in Leinster plays McDonagh Runner up for promotion. Gives more incentive to the McDonagh teams. The current system is crazy, Westmeath playing Cork and Galway / Waterford / Clare all out. Two years in a row Waterford have gone out early. They can't be relegated but under the current format they would be better off in McDonagh as they would be playing Dublin now in a Qualifier.

All Ireland could be more like the super 8's. Top 4 teams in each province into All Ireland series, two groups of 4 seeded based on finish in province. Two Leinster and Two Munster in each group. Either top 2 into semis or group winners into final.

In my opinion there are already far too many games. 6 teams in both provincial championships for sure. But why all the extra games after that?
A straight final between the provincial winners.
Even as it stands at the moment a team can lose 3 games in their province and still win Liam.
