Mayo V Galway

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Mayo really fell over the line again today but bloody fair play to them. Referee must be looked at. Cillian O'Connor should have seen red then the next time he touches the ball he kicks one of the biggest scores of the summer. Mayo cynical fouls weren't punished whatsoever and stopped Galway from ever getting going. Always good to have Mayo in the latter stages of the Championship. Galway will be back, would have beaten any other Round 4 team bar maybe Tyrone but that's the luck of the draw for you!

I wonder will the Indo do a special about the refs performance?

Who on Earth does Kevin Walsh be talking to on his mic all through a game, can he not make a decision himself.
It's way past time the GAA took time keeping from the ref and brought in a countdown clock like the ladies, there should have been at least another minute of injury time played at the end of the game
Mayo cannot complain about Dublin being a cynical team, they're right up there with them.
And again Aidan O'Shea disappear in a big game

Well, sin sin. The soft early goal put us on the back foot straight away. The first half was a familiar sight unfortunately. Slow build-up and a complete lack of support any time we won a ball inside. We started to finally look like a better team when we went man for man and pushed up fully on their kickout.
We have no business in the last 8 this year, and it should be the catalyst for a change of the management team. The best of luck to Mayo in the Super 8s. They'll give Kerry a much better rattle than we would have at the moment.
On a separate note, I'm not one to usually call out players, but Cillian O'Connor was a shining example of so much that is wrong with the game today. He takes playacting to a level I haven't seen before, be it diving, faking getting hit and constantly trying to get his marker booked. I'm well aware that he's not unique in this regard, but the regularity of it is ridiculous in his case.

O'Connor is a blight on the game. He is constantly in the referee's ear, niggling at the opposition and then when he gets a tap he's on the deck glancing up at the ref looking for a free. His antics should be held up to every kid in the country as an example of how not to act on the field of play. On the game itself, cracking entertainment compared to the earlier snoozefest. Both team tried to play open football which was great, none of the endless halfway line hand-passing nonsense. Galway paid for those early goal concessions. Comer could have been the answer but they didn't seem to know how to play him. Mayo's experience and game management shone through. That's going to be some group in the S8s.

For the second week now the referee has got Mayo over the line, looks like the GAA want Mayo in the super 8's and whatever it takes to help them there is going to be done, Cillian O'Connor has been at this stuff for years, hasn't got him an All Ireland medal though, cracker coming up against Kerry next weekend, hope the ref calls the game fairly next time and may the best team win then, super 8's are shaping up nicely,Kerry v Tyrone and Mayo v Dublin semi finals? think it's a year too early for this young Donegal team despite what you hear in the media, it will take a seasoned team to challenge Dublin.

There was a point they got where the player avoided two tackles and took at least 10 steps before shooting.

Mayo, Kerry and Dublin. I can never understand why refs always favour these 3 teams.

Maybe Dublin can get their Commercial Director a guest appearance on the Sunday Game (like they did a few years ago) to point this out

Agree...a bloody clown. Galway fans around me were dead on and wished us look. It's kill kill kill during the 70 plus minutes but no problem after the game.

was kind of going for Galway, but two basic things..were loosing and .first brought on DI amien Comer, like the super 8 game with Dublin last year, kicked one high ball in to him, he got onto the end of it...same tonight be it the ball came off the upright and was cleared...seemed to abandon that plan then....then Galway bring on Tomas Flynn, 6ft 5 into midfield...kicked out couple of high balls..he was unlucky breaking them down that no one was there most times to collect..then they abandon that plan...Shane Walsh was very decent on frees...a good hitter of the ball, they bring up their number 4 to take the penalty, which was a woeful effort, not taking from the fact that David Clarke still had to stop it and credit to him for getting his end of it right...even when time was almost up..what had Galway to loose by letting in a few high balls to Comer...best team won, but cannot see them troubling Dublin based on their performance this evening...Super 8's are going to be pretty predictable but Cork infairness seem to have a bit of scoring and attack about them so good to see them through...

A bit more gracious than the Mayo "supporters" who were waving 2 fingers at the Galway bus as it left the stadium this evening. Clowns. Hope Kerry rip ye a new one.

The ref has been shocking for so long it's not funny. Not great as a linesman or umpire, always seems to get involved.
