Congratulations on a well deserved Connacht Title. Mfs (Mayo) - Posts: 251 - 17/06/2019 15:44:33 2196587 Link 0 |
Frighten the favorites indeed. Are you suggesting that they hide behind a wall, and shout boooo loudly, when the Dubs get off the team bus? Because, we all know what's going to happen, when the ball gets thrown in there. The Dubs won't be frightened. Ros may well have reason to be mildly concerned, if not frightened. It's possibly why there's absolutely no fizz in this year's football championship, and no fizz in last year's either. Super8 my ass.

Congratulations to Anthony Cunningham and Roscommon. Well deserved. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2113 - 17/06/2019 16:24:13 2196626 Link 1 |
What on earth does Sunday's football result have to do with Galway's hurlers? Cunningham is very well respected in Galway. However, the hurlers felt they needed more after 2015 to reach the holy grail. Their call proved a correct one, with Micheál Donoghue bringing us our first title in 30 years. Was that 'poetic justice'? No, and you can be sure that AC's role in the development of that team was well acknowledged. Anthony Cunningham, Kevin Walsh and Micheál Donoghue are all great GAA men who've given up so much of their time to the sport. Likewise, Mattie Kenny. I do have to laugh at people saying this proves that the hurlers were wrong to get rid of him. Cunningham has done well to win a Connacht title, but let's not get carried away, it's not the second coming. TheFlaker (Mayo) - Posts: 7885 - 17/06/2019 16:50:30 2196643 Link 1 |
I know he wouldn't have won anything there lol

He wasn't let win the major prize in Galway lol! At least Laois hurlers and footballers are still in the championship :) A true dual county. Yesterday was Karma for you Katy ;) On a serious note though he'd make a far better manager of the Galway county football team than the present. Ye get rid of the good ones and keep the duds. Hope you're enjoying your humble pie :) BliainanÁir (Laois) - Posts: 598 - 17/06/2019 17:45:41 2196670 Link 0 |
John Prenty and co got our county board to sign such agreement whereby that we had to get turnstiles, new toilets etc before hosting another Connacht final. No such problems for the 1st round of qualifiers as HQ has ruling over those game and not the Connacht GAA.

I loved the comment he made after the Connaught Final. I don't have it word for word but he said something like it's a privilege to be part of the GAA and I don't care whether it's football or hurling. Sindar (Roscommon) - Posts: 348 - 17/06/2019 21:13:51 2196782 Link 1 |
Why how was he stopped from winning the major prize? What's the true definition of a dual County in laois lol.... send down a Laois man to manage Galway.. ... on a serious note that would be laughable!! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2193 - 17/06/2019 21:25:42 2196789 Link 0 |
We send men like Mick Dempsey to Kilkenny, who is basically a co manager with Cody. Well respected theresince 2006. Ye did the dirt on Anthony Cunningham. Laois 82,000 pop achieves it's potential in hurling and football. Galway 258,000 pop.. you know the rest ;) Hope you have all your sour grapes counted by now.. Wow one man Mick I'm impressed lol Don't know what your talking about...Anthony is very respected.. sure I hurled under him at our Club after he left the Galway team!!! 82,000 achieved its potential in potato picking and sugar beet harvest...Sin é lol

You do know throwing in lols and shouting with exclamation marks is a sign of trying too hard? Why the need for three exclamation marks after I hurled under him? You must have been in the B class at school. Plenty of great Laois GAA exports, Ned Wheeler who passed away recently passed away comes to mind. Anyway enough of your strawman arguments. Tell us all again Galway hurlers are better than Wexford, Dublin and Kilkenny? And ye did shaft Anthony, as a county. BliainanÁir (Laois) - Posts: 598 - 18/06/2019 12:48:47 2197059 Link 0 |
Did he make that Galway hurling team more physical than previous teams? The Roscommon play some great football but also relish the physical side of the game. Proper championship football. GreenandRed (Mayo) - Posts: 7337 - 18/06/2019 13:51:38 2197099 Link 4 |
'As a county', what do you mean? The players, well over 20 players voted that they needed change. Less than 10 voted to retain AC. The county board had to back the players to avoid a standoff? AC had 4 years in charge, and over 70% of his players thought they needed a change after 4 years. The change was made for the 2016 season. Galway were NHL, Leinster and All-Ireland champions in 2017. The heave was vindicated totally imo, with the silverware haul of 2017. AC had a great term in charge of Galway imo, radically changing the team selections in 2012, & again in 2015, to reach two deciders in four years with largely different sides. It is my view that Galway would not have won the all-ireland in 2017, if AC had been retained in 2015 after the player/manager standoff. We'll see how good Ros are, before the season is out. I'm fearful that they beat a very poor Galway side in this 2019 final. I thought that Galway would be stronger on the day, but as it transpired, it now seems that the unavailability of Conroy, Comer, plus Duggan & FOC(in game) left Galway fairly bereft of ball winning target men in key positions, along with vital experience & leadership that's usually needed to prevail on the big day. There's no denying, we folded like a cheap suit there in the second half. That's not to take anything away from AC's achievement, just telling it like it seems to be.

Imo, he made them fitter, hungrier, and changed the panel & team selection quite radically. More physical, no, but if you're fitter & hungrier, you can appear to be more physical some times too. John McIntyre left the Galway job in 2011, and memorably declared on exit, that Galway were 'farther than ever away from winning an all-ireland'. Yet Cunningham had Galway drawing a final against the mighty cats of 2012, albeit with a sizeable dollop of assistance from the man in the middle on the day imo. Still, huge progress. After that side derailed at the 2013 Leinster final, AC radically changed the team again in 2014 and 2015, and brought half a team of young lads to the final of 2015, where they came up short to a by now declining Kilkenny side & this time James Owens! After this, the Galway players demanded a managerial change, got the change, and duly delivered the clean sweep in 2017. I think you're overrating this Roscommon team. I thought they beat a bad side, on the day. I hope you're right, and that this 'proper championship football' will deliver Ros some decent super 8 results. I'll believe it, when I see it though. Is that 2 bad sides the beat??

Fair comment, they're all clearly top 6,8,10 teams in the country. I'd enjoy seeing Ros play the super8 series well, and justifying their top8 status. I thought Galway were 'bad' on Sunday. We seemed to collapse hopelessly in the second half. Perhaps I'm wrong, and it was just Ros making them look bad on the day. The super8 series of games will tell the tale for Ros, and for Galway & Mayo too, if either or both of them make it.

All teams have injuries. Roscommon have reinvented themselves several times over the past few years. I've lost count of how many have gone for one reason or another and you're blaming this defeat on a few injuries! Galway are soft and serious underachievers and each year are overrated. They completely caved in last Sunday. They're still living off the Joyce, Donnellan, Fallon era. Not even close to the top table. I'm not dumb enough to say Roscommon are either because as much and all as I enjoy a Connaught title and especially in a year when we take Mayo and Galway in their backyards, there is a different level ahead of us.. We punch above our weight just like Monaghan have been doing and that's about as much as a supporter can reasonably expect apart from the odd title thrown in every now and then.
