The Sunday Game - Awful Coverage

Replying To winatallcost:  "How is Donal Og Cusack back on panel after those comments in that contraversial court case more or less backing up the character of a guilty man of a terrible crime. His latest comments on mental state of mind of county managers also total unnecessary. This is a voluntary amateur game giving huge enjoyment to its members for people have options to opt in or out. What about issues in the real world Donal. Always trying to talk up everyone and have an agenda on it."
A very skewed view of the term 'character witness' there.

Replying To baire:  "I'm surprised that RTÉ can't see that it's unprofessional to ask recently retired players, eg B Cummins, H Shefflin & J Tyrell, to act as pundits and to comment on ex-teammates in major games."
That's one thing but Eddie Brennan as a rival manager putting up a childish comment on twitter beats all that. Lost a lot respect for him on Sunday.

Replying To PaudieSull1:  "This is now getting pathetic.......Kilkenny got more than their fair share of 'handy' calls down the years particularly from Gavin, Kirwan among others.....Cody thought he could change the rules if the game and have them reffed like he wanted, this changed under Liam O Neill as president with refs instructed to increasingly start reffing to the rules and not 'the flow'.......best team won on the day, accept it and try show some class"
Agree every team gets their fair share of calls but Kelly never reffed another Kilkenny game after the 14 drawn game. What does that tell you?

Replying To BliainanÁir:  "Would you give over. Every team in the country has players who get sent off. Human nature is the same everywhere and doesn't change with county boundaries. You've a 'pathological' hatred of Kilkenny.

Those type of phrases about killing are common in all sports don't take them literally.

For example Johnny Giles quoting a football manager 'would he kill his granny?'. For an uncompromising player. Bill Shankley 'football is not just a matter of life and death, it's more important than that'. Try Compromise Rules against the Aussies for some serious clothes line tackles etc.

Here's a nice Limerick/Clare hurling brawl for you.. https://youtu.be/4nOmN6G3XXY

Your post is another example of a time worn practice of diluting the gravity of the offense so as to 'get out of jail" .

Maybe it tells you KK have a lot of influence when referees are being appointed.

Have been writing for over a decade od KK blanket approach to managing not just the players on the field but also manipulating officials and the media. Below is another example of this. Dilute the gravity of the offense {ah sure everybody does it " so as to get another " get out of jail card". Parade out your heroes of yesteryear and pundits of today who have access to a microphone preach the message.
This is great psychology, unfortunately also another case of Murphy's dog who was great o give it but he couldn't take it" .

Here is latest salvo from D on his cousin.J.. he forgot to mention that Richie goes to mass and communion every morning. hehehe and all that.

DJ Carey believes up to five players could have been sent off in last Sunday's All-Ireland SHC final if the rules had been properly applied.
Carey's second cousin Richie Hogan was the only one to see red and his controversial 33rd minute dismissal had a huge bearing on the outcome as Tipperary put Kilkenny's 14 men to the sword in the second half.
Speaking to KCLR Radio, the Kilkenny legend stated: "If the GAA has brought in a directive, my understanding of the directive is that a head-high challenge is a red card so there could have been five guys sent off.
"But are we going down the road now of really ruining the game and forget the Richie Hogan sending off, that's done with, but where does it actually stop?

-----------------------------------
On a personal note I am rapidly lsoing respect for some of these now retired hurling heroes whom I have greatly admired until now barring "the fast one" who should have been red carded from the game years ago.

Replying To ballydalane:  "Spot on, Arock. The inconsistency is shocking. Refs chairman Willie Barrett is quoted in today's Independent as follows:

"He (Barrett) said that all referees had been told to firmly clamp down on head high challenges. "What we have told our referees is that anything to the head is a red card.""

Really? When were refs instructed to do this? Cos that ain't been happening in this championship!"
One think is for certain that there appears to be a lot of jealousy towards the Cats

IMO best hurling team and management ever Henry Shefflin best ever hurler TJ not far behind

I am sick off this politically correct Ireland we now have anyone that ever played GAA will know that its a physical game
Officials/administrators ruining the game with their rules

You can have a physical game and also clamp down on dangerous play
That isnt political correctness and going down that line of thought is trumpian at its best and is what really needs to be clamped out.
Yes there is some jealousy towards Kilkenny but there is no doubt they get away with a huge amount and should be penalised in some areas of game much more than they are

I simply cannot believe in 2019 that there are people who think Kilkenny get away with more than any other team. There was perhaps something to it when they were at the height of the powers up to 2014 but that is simply not the case anymore. Name any incident, and type of offence that illustrates your point that Kilkenny get away with a lot. It's especially surprising coming from a Limerick man considering how robustly Limerick play the game and seem to pride themselves on it.

So in today's episode of Kilkenny cat laughs I see DJ is throwing his tupence worth into the mix. 5 lads should have been sent off?
I totally understand that media etc are going to be tapping up any popular ex Kilkenny players to get a response from them to sell news. But Jesus Christ lads where's your dignity? Will ye put down the shovels and try save some face. Your better than that. Far better. Take the whole thing on the chin and channel it into motivation for next year. What's done is done.

Diluting the gravity of the offence. My God!

You do realise ethnic cleansing has taken place in Rwanda, the Balkans etc in the last 30 years. You nee to get a grip on reality.

Most days I go out to dose cattle, castrate calves, pair animals feet etc i get worse tips in the head than brittle Barrett.

Would have to disagree with the words "a lot". Of course there is always some jealousy of success but I believe there has been more admiration that jealousy for the Cats. They have shown another side in defeat that people now see and has led to viewing them differently. I guess it is easy be nice when winning. I was supporting them on Sunday but was disgusted when seeing the behaviour of Henry, Tyrell and Cody. I for one will want them beaten every time out going forward. That is just me and everyone else is welcome to their view.
No disagreement what so ever about the greatness of Henry and TJ. Sorry to see Henry destroy his legacy with his present bias while understanding him supporting his team.

I'm with you. ....
Easy to be nice when you're winning. The Murphy's dog side is emerging in defeated and " it ain't pretty. Not surprised with Cody's bully pulpit tactics, Fsdt Eddie's campaign chirping, ( he'd probably give serious consideration to Cody's job if offered .Also not surprised by Attention seeking Mr T.turn, need to stay relevant for Liitllewoods and all that, to hell with any facts.

Well also want to to see them beat and every time also going forward.
Hope Henry accepts defeat graciously and stops walthe mud with the others as I have always admired him.

In return I promise I will not attempt to start a National debate as to why Cillian Buckley was allowed too stand too close to Darragh O'Donovan or kick up stink that Limerick were not awarded a 65 that surely would have tied the game and possibly brought Liam -4-

Let's make a deal! Enough of this horses$&@@..t is enough .

PatOLogical I don't even discuss Eddie anymore. In the last two years he has done more back flips that any gold medalist in Olympic diving competition.

Canuck the anti Kilkenny thing is eating you alive. Now there are county rivalries and we all have certain counties that get to us more than others!

But Waterford won the best U21 AI i've seen in 2016. Have a great set of players. It's a really important time for ye to get the right manager and get back to where ye should be. I seriously mean that. Forget the cats and everyone else. Focus on that. That's what makes the cats good they look after their hurling and criticism from outside is water off a duck's back.Hence every Kilkenny pundit backed Richie Hogan and didn't careless what the rest of the country thought. They sing from the one hymn sheet. Laois, Waterford etc are often pulling in opposite directions.

Definitely not anti Kilkenny and supported them for obvious reasons not to share here. Ungracious in defeat is not a trait I will ever applaud on the path to being good. Don't want that hymn sheet or at least that song. Repeating for the umpteen time very, very surprised but now realise like many others, may be those taunts about Waterford over the years by friends etc. is their real face and not poking fun.
I think your accurate Waterford have great players but not enough of them. The last team had more. We will see. I would love to see Laois continue the up spiral. Many good college friends during my days at WRTC And they could hurl to.
