I wouldn't just be writing us off yet. Plenty of football to be played yet this year.

No point in lying - disappointing league thus far. No panic though. A few injuries & an enforced absence. Highlights our vulnerability in terms of playing population & pipeline. Good to see Cavan win today. Hope we stay up but an uphill battle awaits. greysoil (Monaghan) - Posts: 965 - 24/02/2019 17:24:21 2167569 Link 0 |
Monaghan doing poorly.....bring out the population card.

:) Monaghan do complain about the population when things are going bad....admit it ;) The_Fridge (Tyrone) - Posts: 2088 - 24/02/2019 21:37:02 2167732 Link 0 |
To be fair to Fridge, I think there is a certain amount of truth in what he is saying. You can't have it both ways. Monaghan are the first to tell us how about how the great they are operating in division one and playing in All Ireland quarter finals etc with such a small population. I have even seen several other threads where they have told other counties with similar population sizes to dry their eyes when they complain about being beat. So when you are having a bad time of it you can't bring out the old 'small county' card. Now Tyrone are by no means world beaters at the minute but we were by far the better team last night and we are still not at full strength and it had absolutely nothing to do with the population of my southern neighbours. No they don't, but they do have a tendency to eulogise about a low population when things are going well ( as do so the called commentators), which is completely different, punching above their weight and all that bullsh*t Though I can see how it might be construed differently when it suits mhunicean_abu (Monaghan) - Posts: 1044 - 25/02/2019 00:22:06 2167800 Link 1 |
Not quite. It is more a case of we blow our own horn when things are going well. I have never really seen or heard any Monaghan person use population as an excuse for a poor effort. Realistically for the last number of years there is very little between Tyrone and Monaghan. Monaghan gave a bad performance, particularly in the second half in Healy Park and Tyrone played well and were deserved winners. Monaghan perhaps got a few ref calls go against them but it made no difference IMO overall. I am hoping Monaghan do a very Monaghan thing and under perform in the games they are expected to be close in or even win....Then go out and shock people in other games. I sure hope that you are correct. Tyrone changed their league season in the second half against Roscommon. I had the awful feeling that monaghan would go down to them. Monaghan need to win their next game and that's a huge ask against a rejuvenated Kerry. border Gael (Monaghan) - Posts: 894 - 25/02/2019 21:53:36 2168187 Link 1 |
