Sad to hear of the passing of John Morrison. Undervalued and under appreciated, did a first class job alongside Mickey Moran in getting Mayo to an AI final in their only year in charge. As a pair they definitely deserved more time but our County board is as fickle as they come. Never heard of a bad word about John. May he rest in peace.

Did a few coaching sessions in our club over the years as a favour , didn't know the man personally but you couldn't but admire his enthusiasm, he allways had the players eating out of his hand RIP

Had the pleasure of meeting John many years ago. John would have you hanging on his every worth. From details of teaching Paul McGrane to restore his fielding technique. To giving his opinion on shoulders being inline with the post as you shoot and listing the 50 odd some ways to beat a man.
It's great to hear all the positive stories coming out today about the great John Morrison. Seems that John has had a lasting impact on anyone who has had the pleasure of spending time in his company.

I often went along to Mayo training sessions back in 2006 and the first thing that always struck me about both John and Mickey was the love of the game that they both possessed. They were proud to be managing Mayo at the time and treated all the players as if they were their own. They were at every training session hours before it would begin and this was after travelling hundreds of miles to get to Mayo. They were never in any rush home either and often stayed behind to chat to spectators. This was important to them. It felt really strange at the time listening to two guys with big northern accents roaring everything positive to ours boys and John in particular stood out not just in size but the way he used his quirky language to get the best from the guys.

It should also be noted that the training sessions were always done with the ball in hand which again was new and inventive and this I believe led to guys like Ciaran Mc and Kevin O'neill playing some of their best football for the green and red. On reflection its just a shame that they didn't get another year. They deserved it!

Rest in peace John..... You're legacy will always live on here in Mayo

By all accounts John was not only a great GAA man, but just a great human being first and foremost. His weekly columns in the Gaelic Life were required reading for any aspiring coach or motivator. Sincere condolences to his family and many friends.
