Limerick Put Liam On The Tack

(Oldest Posts First)

I see media reports that limerick county board has kept Liam out of the pub. If this is true them a big well done and a excellent example

It is Ireland I suppose so that probably qualifies as some sort of achievement.

When Liam was in Galway he did a fair bit of pub visits. This I believe was to help the galway team fund their holiday. I wonder how did Limerick fund their holiday?

This opens a debate as to whether Croke park should make a far greater contribution to the All Ireland finalists, if they want to take away a major source of the winning all Ireland finalists fundraising.

Liam must be having severe withdrawal symptoms after the amount time he spent in Kilkenny over the last 15 years or so.

I think his withdrawal symptoms will be assuaged by the fact that Limerick was the county where he first reposed way back in 1921

Yes we'll done limerick county board because of your decision ( no doubt by a non drinker) half the county's supporters didn't get to see Liam McCarthy in the flesh, and all because they happen to enjoy a drink in the big bad pub.

Why do All Ireland trophies, have to tour pubs, so that a crowd who might never go to a GAA match, slobber over the cups?. It sends out a very bad message, much better to tour the schools, and community centres.

When my own team won the Offaly JFC title last October, they headed for the local! I believe something similar happened with the minor hurling champions in 2015!!.
Not great thinking by team officials.

I'm pretty sure people who frequent these big bad pubs, aren't actually prohibited from leaving said pubs and seeing the trophy in the non-pub place its visiting.

I do agree with cups going to schools especially Liam McCarthy and Sam Maguire its great for the kids, but the problem is not everyone in the county goes to school and not every parish has a community hall or sports hall, but every parish has a pub so whats so wrong with bringing it there, many a good gaa man and woman enjoy a drink why is that so wrong, it's as part of who we are every much as the gaa is.

i work in a big bad pub,and can only say from experience, given our proximity to wexford park,i think we get the best of the post-match celebrations.
almost any of my friends who work in country pubs, say that by the time the team get back to the local they are already full, inevitably a row over who was picked on an u12 team in 1997 starts and that but for the few bob made on a team winning, the value to the pub is debatable.
