Replying To tulachmhór:  "Bold statement, how many offaly games have you been to this year to say they look like they belong in the basement? As far as us getting comprehensively beaten whilst carlow take something off promotion seeking down-well I'll close my account on the spot if that comes to pass!

Offaly, down, westmeath, longford for me this weekend."
I admire your optimism, I have a hunch your basing your Offaly beating Lapis on the fact its a derby and Offaly will get the extra push in this game..to me and many Laois appear to be a better team than Offaly and should win this game by 5/6 points minimum..I hope of course I am wrong, can't vsee where Offaly are going to pull a win from in this game.. can't see it..

I expect Sligo to upset Longford and win, as far as I'm aware Robbie Smyth is gone from the panel and they are toothless without him, despite everyone doing their best etc

Looks like this division won't be finished by the set final date on March 30th. Wonder what that will mean for the double header division 3 and 4 final in croker that day? It shows the calendar is too tight especially with the weather we normally get this time of year.

Offaly and Sligo now clash in their last game..Sligo gone already, Offaly should get over them, interesting to see how Carlow fare against Laois and if they can get a result there to save themselves from relegation....I agree the timeframe of games is far too tight in both football and hurling, the good is almost gone out of it such is the squashing in of games...

Sligo to beat Offaly.
Carlow Laois draw.
Down to beat Louth
Westmeath to beat Longford.

Down Westmeath promoted to Div 2

Sligo Offaly relegated to Div 4.

Facile victories for offaly, laois and down. Westmeath to take longford also this weekend.

Tough medicine for carlow as it's hard to continue to progress or measure yourself in division 4 and theyll find it hard to know where they are at. It's a shame for them that the laois boys have something to play fo this weekend as I think if laois had nothing to play for, it would have been a close enough game between them. That aside, I'd expect a quick bounce back up from them next season.

Sligo and possibly carlow aside, theres very little between anyone in this division. Very disappointed with our own result last weekend. The 'nothing to play for' was clear in our players and even then
I felt that we still could have ground something out. Youd have to assume that they are in a training cycle for the meagh game after promotion went out of their reach. Didn't use the wind smart enough in first half and got caught under a high hoofed in ball.

I wouldn't be so sure of a Laois win here! Massive game for Carlow and it will be very tight. I predict a Carlow win. Offaly would go down if that happened.

If Louth and Westmeath is pushed to a stand alone last day fixture, it seriously compromises the integrity of the division. Either one could be playing for promotion against a team already eliminated. For example
If laois down and Westmeath win on Sunday, Westmeath will overtake laois by playing a disinterested Louth.
If Louth laois and longford win, Louth will overtake down on score difference by beating a disinterested Westmeath.
I know these are IFS BUTS AND MAYBES, but the last set of fixtures should all be played simultaneously, even if that means deferring a week.

I agree all games should start at same time on same day......whatever about giving fringe players a run out, if its a critical game to either team involved if they are true sports people they should go out to win the match..hard to govern I know, but if other teams not involved are depending on results, either way, the teams involved should take the game as they would any other...

This weekend is an extremely tough situation for Louth. That 1 point loss to Carlow was hard to take and had we played Westmeath next, we either would have won and built up a bit of confidence or at least known our fate was sealed. We now have the farcical situation that we will end up playing Westmeath in a dead rubber and in turn delaying the league in Louth from starting. Looking back at the start of this thread, the predictions from some on here were laughable. The expectancy by some was that we would finish with only 2 points, yet since the league was revamped after the 2007 season, we have only found ourselves in division 4, once.

The bookies had us and Carlow as the favourites to go down so staying up is great. Anything after that is a bonus. Since the reformation of the leagues in 2008, wee have spend 7 years in Division 3, spend 4 years in Division 2 and spend 1 year in Division 4. So maybe Division 3 is the Wee County's level. If we don't go up it will be the first time since 2014 that we have stayed in same Division. Since then wee have been up and down through the Divisions.

As a starter I will go way out on a limb and forecast final table if only to see how wrong I was in hindsight

1. Down 12
2 Westneath 11
3. Laois 8
4 Carlow 7
5.Longford 7
6. Offaly 6
7 Louth 2
8. Sligo 2

Or there abouts."
My second last look back at my forecast at beginning of league
Can I start with apologies to Louth who could end up with 8 points. We will hopefully end up with 7 as predicted.
I may have got the first two correct. And Sligo.

If Louth win their last two matches they will end up on ten points.

Do Offaly deserve to stay up?..the played well in some games and didn't see them out, I am thinking, Westmeath and Louth in particular...Carlow did well at the start and in fairness, haven't been hammered by any team, on a head to head if it comes to it Offaly will survive if Carlow get no result against Laois (and of course if Offfaly beat Sligo!!)...how will those games pan out will be very interesting...Laois need a win to keep interest too..
