Carlow v Down I expect a very tough game next outing.

Yes I agree
Big game for both teams
Down must start favourites but Carlow seemed to I have their mojo back , have made some decisive changes and Paul Broderick may also be back.
Should be a good contest with a very vocal local support and I am sure Down will bring down a sizeable traveling support.
This is such a competitive league
Sligo could upset odds to today

Very disappointed after this weekends performance. Happy though to have a two week break now and give the lads time to adjust.

Big game against laois next time out. They'll be looking to stay in the promotion hunt whereas we don't have much left to play for unfortunately.

Well done to all the winners this weekend.

I don't think we will be. Even in the worse case scenario (a loss to laois) I still think we be ok. I don't see carlow picking up any further points and both of us and carlow on 5 points sees carlow relegated due to the head to head. Sligo gone already.

Anyway, I do not think it will come to that.

Replying To tulachmhór:  "I'd strongly disagree with most of your post to be honest. Why should we not consider ourselves favourites against laois in our own backyard? If results go as hoped we'd be above them by the time they come to town and wed be looking upwards.

I also don't think that writing sligo off is actually being cocky. Just calling it as I see it with the table to back me up. I know they'll be looking to reign on our parade up their on the final day but we'll be more than safe by then with a chance at promotion (reliant on other fixtures obviously) so why not be confident and have a cut?"
the table is what I am going by too...Offaly second bottom with -8 scoring difference, Laois have +8...quite simply we wont score enough to beat Laois...its like a rugby match with such huffing and puffing trying to register scores on the board...we played in windy conditions last night and scored only 0-10..other teams played in rain, hail and sleet and bitter cold today and scored way more...lowest scorers in our division yet again this weekend...Carlow cannot be discounted from picking up another point or 2...they beat Louth last night..Ime not a betting man, never was, but I wouldnt rule out Offaly and Sligo drawing...wont be a pretty game with maybe 0-10 a piece...I hope I am wrong but based on what I seen to date we have a decent team on paper, and thats it...Laois will be expecting to beat us....

If you read the league table, Offaly are second from bottom, with 3 points, and -8 score difference. In my view that makes us relegation candidates, rather than some deluded notion of promotion, that went out the door after the first 3 games. Laois and Sligo are up next, none of those games are guaranteed wins, Laois will fancy their chances of winning and improving their promotion prospects.

We have no reason to dismiss Sligo, in our last game. Our maximum points total, assuming we win both games will be 7 points. Not enough for promotion, but possibly avoid relegation.
This will be the 3rd successive year that Offaly go in the last game needing a win to stay in Divison 3. It could all go wrong, I hope not.

Reading a report on Saturday night's match v Down, Offaly scored only 2 points from play, the remaining 8 points were from placed balls. Not a good return.

Thanks FairPlay for bringing a sense of reality to the situation. We have it all to do, and only Offaly can do it.

So with 3 games to play anything could still happen in Division 3 (apart from Sligo who are now relegated). First of all its looking like Down, Westmeath, Louth and Laois are fighting it out to go up. For the relegation places its between Offaly, Carlow and Longford. Carlow look to have the toughest route with Down and Laois still to come however i really think Carlow will have a good rattle at Down at home. Offaly have Laois and Sligo and Longford have Sligo and Westmeath. I wouldnt rule out Sligo picking off a win or two in their final games. They have nothing to lose at this stage so will have a real go. Basically If Carlow finish the same points as either Longford or Offally the will go down as it comes to head to head. However if all 3 teams finish on the same points then it will go to scoring difference and at the moment Offaly are a good bit off the other two and will go down. On the flip side of everything else if Carlow or Longford win their last two games they will finish on 9 points and given the way the group is, 9 points could be enough to get promotion!!! Division 3 will provide some excitement in the last two games with everything to be played for still.

There are just a few certainties, Sligo are relagated down can't be relegated, offaly can't be promoted. Aside from that anything is possible. It may not even be any clearer after the next round, on or two surprise results could shake it up even more

Think that says a lot about the amount of soft frees the Wicklow referee was giving Offaly, and also margin could have been a lot closer if Allen didn't miss so many in the windy conditions. Neither team made use of the wind in their backs, possibly swirling too much, however Down much more efficient in scoring, only 4pts from frees

I'll take Carlow just staying up (in both codes) thank you ... I think promotion won't be worrying us in the NFL somehow.
Pity it could be at Offaly's expense in both cases - a great GAA county.

I wasn't in Newry Saturday night, so I rely on the brief report in today's Irish Independent. From my local radio commentary, I got the impression Offaly put in a poor second half. It was always a tough ask, playing Down away. Good luck to your own county in the remaining 2 games, Down are a team with a great tradition, and it would be great to see them contending for national honours.
Offaly have to try and win our remaining games to stay in the third tier.

Think the hurlers might do it on Saturday, but Carlow will have other views. The football situation will need a big effort.

Offaly are decent favourites to go down. 2/5 with Paddy Power. They are in a tough spot. Zero room for things to go against them really.

Westmeath look good to go up with Down, Cannot see Louth getting much from either of those two in their last two games but that is when they could surprise you.

A lot of talk here about Offaly I think Laois will comprehensively beat them on saturday and that will be them down as Carlow will pick up something against down.

Laois have a great chance of going up still if they can win their two last games which I think they will.

I think westmeath will top the group with Laois and down fighting for second.

Sligo and Offaly will go down where in truth they look like they belong.

Bold statement, how many offaly games have you been to this year to say they look like they belong in the basement? As far as us getting comprehensively beaten whilst carlow take something off promotion seeking down-well I'll close my account on the spot if that comes to pass!

Offaly, down, westmeath, longford for me this weekend.
