McKenna Cup

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Two big matches coming up this weekend. Derry vs Tyrone will be different to the meeting we had together just before Christmas as we have players such as Shane McGuigan and Niall Toner etc. back in the squad as they were playing for their colleges in the competition; the defence seems to have tighten up a bit also, hoping for a Derry win of course but think that Tyrone will just edge it unfortunately.
Donegal vs Armagh could be a glimpse of what may be to come in the league when they both meet again. Think that this may go to extra time with Donegal coming out on top in the end. Expect a red card or two

Don't think the Donegal v Armagh game will be that physical. The recent encounters haven't been and have actually been played in a very free flowing form. Donegal have a load of young lads cutting their teeth and therefore no real bad blood battles to settle. It would be nice to see these young Donegal lads getting a chance in a final.
The Tyrone v Derry game should be a close one. Tyrone have the best defensive record in the competition so far and are trying to build on that solid defence with a few new forwards that they were missing last year. MH would like to win this and would be hoping for a crack at Donegal in the final as we won't be meeting in the league.
I'll go for a Donegal and Tyrone win.

I think all these teams will have good league campaigns and Donegal v Armagh may give an indication which team is better prepared for the Division Two campaign. Tyrone should have too much for Derry who badly need to get out of Division Four.

Can't see the Tyrone game being close. I expect Tyrone to win by at least 6 or 7 points. Donegal should ease past Armagh. Bring on the league.

The beauty of sport - getting it wrong. Glad to see Armagh win. Saves on fuel.

Athletic Grounds confirmed for Saturday night. Most East Tyrone folk will be happy with that I'm sure.

Good team. Think McAliskey still in rehab.
Il agree about sending out a strong team. It's a final to be won so win it, I'd say Armagh will put out a strong team.

Looking forward to it to be honest. I see it's onTG 4 which will effect the attendance.

Any guesses on attendance? 4500? 5000 maybe?

Forgot about Conor breaking his leg, it was good seeing him out kicking about before the Derry game. I was looking at the All-Ireland Final team and added a few players, I did'nt add big Colm as there is plenty of time to bring him in during the league. I'd say there will be a big enough crowd Armagh dont get to many finals.
But as you say fridge it's a final so we'll be there to win it.

Athletic Grounds good setting for Saturday night. Both teams want to win and it should be a very competitive affair.

If Tyrone put that team or they'll win handy enough. Armagh are improving but I didn't see anything last Sunday that would make me believe they could beat that Tyrone team.

Unfortunately with Ulster Uni playing in Tralee on Sunday McKernan, Lee Brennan and big Kennedy will be missing from your line up.
The clash of fixtures leaves something like 7 players unavailable for Tyrone not sure how if effects Armagh

3. R McNamee
4. Hugh Pat McGeary
5. Tiernan McCann
6. P Hampsey (College ?) - replacement Rory Brennan
7. Peter Harte
8. Brian Kennedy (College) - replacement Declan McClure

Ruairi Sludden, Ronan O'Neill forward options as well, young Liam Rafferty from Galbally also looks a good player he's a flyer, option at half back or corner back although he played for the Ranch and got 3 points for them. some good talent coming through in Tyrone.

Sludden dives and the ref gives it , how are referees not coping onto this I hate to see it ,drives me nuts but if the ref keeps falling for it the players will dive.

What we seen from Tyrone is hardly a surprise at this stage, it's going on for 15 years. Nothing new in Tyrone's style of play tonight. Armagh were impressive though. Tyrone were very cynical in dragging them into handbags which Armagh reacted to but in terms of football Armagh good to watch and tried to kick the ball throughout, it takes time to gain experience.

Well done to Tyrone but I personally think Armagh deserved it more. Really liked the way Armagh played; looking forward till seeing them play in the League and Championship. I'm not trying to stir anything by saying this but Tyrone don't have what it's takes to stop Dublin if they play their defensive minded football, if Tyrone want to have a chance at beating Dublin then the only way is to go man on man.

My attendance prediction was close!! Lol
11000 is some attendance-I thought with it been on tv it would lower the number. Completely wrong
