TG4's Excellent Club Coverage. But yesterdays games?

(Oldest Posts First)

Fair play to TG4. They're keeping the GAA fan from going insane over the winter with their excellent coverage of the club championships. Although it's pity they don't show more live coverage of games outside of the Gaeltacht regions.

Fantastic GAA coverage all year round from them, the analysts they have are top notch.

The only Gaeltacht club shown this year has been Gaoth Dobhair a few weeks back?

Yesterday they showed Crokes v Finbarrs, neither of whom are Gaeltacht clubs, and then Corofin v Clann na nGael, again neither of whom are Gaeltacht clubs.

Just because Corofin and Crokes are from counties that have Gaeltacht regions doesn't matter, if that were the case surely Dunboyne would've got on the box seeing as Meath is a county with a Gaeltacht.

Did I mention Gaeltacht clubs? I'm not talking about Gaeltacht clubs. It's common knowledge that most of the live club games covered by TG4 take place inside the Gaeltacht regions as in counties along the western seaboard (I should've said in the opening post) eg. Kerry, Cork, Mayo, Donegal and Galway where the station is based. It's easy to understand why because most gaeilgeoirs live in the Gaeltacht regions. TG4 showed the Kilkenny and Dublin finals recently and I'm sure they will show the Leinster club finals next month as always.

I think you are showing a lack of understanding of how gaeltacht regions work there. 90% of Galway people don't speak Irish to any sort of decent level and most Galway football heartland fans come from the north part of the county where there is next to no irish. More fluent irish speakers in Dublin than in any other county, by a long long distance.

The only preference TG4 appear to give the region for sport is they show a large amount of Connacht rugby games over Ulster games on Friday nights.

And so what if they show more west of Ireland games? Our national media are already very Dublin and east coast centric..no harm in a west of Ireland TV station having a more western focus.

They better be showing the Ballintubber v Corofin and Crokes v Portlaois in two weeks time. Two massive games

Corofin beat Ballintubber by 10 points in their last meeting, seeing the way that Corofin blew Clann na nGael away and Ballintubber falling over the line against a very average Tourlestrane its safe to say that gap between the two sides has increased and you won't see Corofin involved in a massive game until the AI series.

You said Gaeltacht regions. None of those clubs are in Gaeltacht regions.

Most Gaeilgeoirí live in Dublin and Belfast actually than in the official Gaeltachtaí.

Yeah but the other game in two weeks is Dr Crokes v a Clare team and we know that will be a hammering aswell but at least with The Corofin/Tubber game there's the O Conor bro's and Dillon on show.

You're right about the excellent coverage TG4 provide but I think you're talking nonsense with regards Gaeltacht regions. So far this year I've watched games from either code in Roscommon, Monaghan, Dublin, Donegal, Kilkenny, Kerry, Galway, Offaly as well as the Munster championship and I know I've missed a few other games. To me, that shows a very good variety of counties so far.

From what I can see is they try to show the best teams and matches as much as possible whether the team on show has Irish speakers or not. I was actually delighted for them when Gaoth Dobhair made the Donegal county final as they could pick almost any player and do an interview through Irish with them which doesn't happen often. I'd imagine they'll show Gaoth Dobhair again this weekend against the Ulster powerhouse that is Crossmaglen and I don't think you'll have anyone complaining about that.

Good points. The 2 games the showed at the weekend was the games the vast majority of people would have shown. The give coverage to games that the likes of rte would never show even if the had the rights.
