That Kerry Blow

Does it really matter whether he gets 8 weeks or 8 months as it make little difference to him as he is not a player- the guy who hits from behind is a coward and should be banned from all matches inside the county for a period (even though that would be impossible to implement). A one match ban for a player is more severe than a 8 weeks ban on a non player. Connolly was involved in handbags and should have got no more than a 1 match ban if indeed any ban. His sentence was handed out on the Sunday game.

it might not matter to him, but its the message it sends out. You can deck someone now and if a ban of over 8 weeks is handed out the assailant would be well within his right to argue his case based on the fact this dude only got 8 weeks. The precedent is set

Remember we don't know the full story , i.e what if any previous incidents happened.
It raises the question for GAA administration at all levels. When should they step back and refer a case up to the guards.

The ban is the same as another for a very similar incident in April at a Kerry club game, why would they ignore that precedent when judging this one? Both are clearly far too lenient though and Kerry county board should be embarrassed at how they are dealing with these.

The whole melee and the pitiful ban to Dingle mentor who hit Moynihan has left a very sour taste in Kerry and I say most of ireland.
Its stuff like this which undermines all the good work Gaelic games does in life.

Not surprised it's left a sour taste , I'd be disgusted with our lot if shoe was on the other foot , agree with all the sentiment being expressed here , a lad can play a game get a smack retaliate it happens, I've seen the mist descend to the best , when your in the heat of battle,
However those in the stands on the sideline in the pub wherever are not in the heat of battle, clubs hit in the pocket and thrown out of championships will bring clubs into line.vested interests is what stops correct and proportionate punishments

Another big opportunity lost to come down hard on this sort of on pitch violence.

If these sorts of punch ups continue it's only a matter of time before someone is left with life altering / ending injuries

The unwillingness to impose proper sanctions could conceivably down have deadly consequences in the future

Opportunities lost like this will become even more apparent.

Let's hope such never happens but inaction greatly increases the likelihood of a tragedy.

Is it possible for the proposed suspension to be reviewed and overruled by the CCCC, given how woefully inadequate the 8 weeks proposed by the Kerry CCC is?
It's pretty incredulous to be honest. A player who was not engaged in the brawl and had his back turned, was punched from behind with full force by a selector in a cowardly attack. It's pretty much as bad as it gets.

This type of violence has been going on for years, the only difference now is that mobile phones are recording it and uploading it online. The violence takes place on the field, on the sideline and amongst spectators although it's usually verbal amongst spectators. It has happened on All Ireland final days and the authorities usually turn a blind eye. I vividly recall supporters from a certain county throwing bottles and all sorts of objects at a player in an All Ireland Final and it was barely mentioned in the media because it did not fit the narrative.
The behaviour of some parents at underage games needs to be addressed as well!

I would certainly love to see that coward try that down in Wicklow.

He would be needing assistance of whatever kind was going, and quickly.

8 weeks ? How about 8 months in jail.

Finally, one full month after multiple video clips of scenes of violence at GAA grounds & a PR disaster, where guys who knock people out, break jaws & knock out teeth, get minimum suspensions or suspensions overturned, finally the President & Director General decide to make a public statement. Laughable, the horse had bolted a long time ago on this issue, no wonder discipline is a mess, total failure of leadership in stepping in & setting the agenda & standards.

Lol.

There's nothing worse that somebody being blindsided.

Face up to somebody like a man and not a coward which is what that manager is.

Court action needed.

Tá fhios agam go bhfuil Colm náireach as cad a tharla. Ach is duine uasal é ó chlann uaisleach.

Ní tharlaíonn an leithéad de céard a rinne an óinseach i gCiarraí i ngach cluiche áfach.

Deir tú go bhfuil náire air agus tá súil agam go bhfuil. Ba chóir go bhfuil náire an domhain air. Cén saghas fear é a dhéanann an saghas rud a rinne sé?

Colm struck an opposition player. He is right to be ashamed, but quoting the bit about a grand fellow, from a good family, does not excuse what happened.
