St. Thomas' v Cushendall..... should be a good game, verdict St. Thomas'.
Ballygunner v Ballyhale/Shamrocks. ...... this has the makings of an absolute cracker of a game, very hard to call it, verdict Ballygunner.

Congrats to St Thomas's and Ballyhale. Should be an awesome final on St Pats Day. Congratulations to Oranmore-Maree too. Great achievement.

It should make for an interesting final. Two teams who've won All Irelands or either there or thereabouts. Have they ever met in All Ireland championship? Ballyhale had the measure of Galway teams in two finals.

No they never met. Yes Ballyhale have had their way with Galway teams in the past. Should be a good one. I'd favor Ballyhale in this one by a couple of points but I hope I'm wrong.

Best of luck to St Thomas' this weekend against a very good Ballyhale/Shamrocks team in the All Ireland Final. I've predicted Thomas' from the start so I'm sticking with them.

I cant say I'd ever shout for teams from either county but really looking forward to this one and I can't call it. Best of luck to both teams.

Thomas' getting a pasting unfortunately. The second half has less bite than a training match. Thomas' haven't been able to put any pressure around the middle third, where Ballyhale have cleaned them out.

disappointing final, this is why the ulster and connacht teams should not get a free pass into the semi final.

Thomas's were awfully poor today, they had no answer to Colin Fennelly today. Far too many one sided Hurling Club Finals over the years.

Hard luck St Thomas's. Next year hopefully. Congratulations to Ballyhale. Awesome performance.

Would you like to broaden out your, well thought out, proposal?

Galway clubs won 12 of the 23 finals played from 1992-2014. Galway clubs have nothing to apologize for at all, with that sort of track record in their pocket. A record that flies in the face of your sweeping conclusion to yesterday's mismatch.

Oh but if St Thomas's had won the final you would have a different version of this tune. You would want them in Leinster/Munster cos they have too easy a path to the final and winning handy All Irelands.

Based in yesterday it now seems sensible to move finals to December or January and play the hurling finals together on one day and football another day.

Also Galways advantage has to be looked at in hurling. Not having a provincial structure to play inmeans they can play county finals in
Late November when others have to play them in mid October and squeeze the schedule of games.

Just wondering what we could do to assist Wexford teams win a Club Championship?

there is no reason why they shouldn't be in the leinster or munster championship.saying "they won this many in this length of time" is a facile argument as they won 2 games, one of which could have been against antrim champions.
i would love a straight knock out open draw for the whole country in this competition.
i dont see what or how you think we are trying to help wexford teams win it glensman but surely if your county champions, and the galway ones, think they are the best in the country they'd be willing to play more than 2 matches to prove it??

Thought ye might need a leg up. :)
The club competition is much bigger now that it was many years ago but definitely needs a rethink that should take it to another level and needs to fit in with Club and County fixtures but also has a look at how the game can be developed properly in areas that need it. Back in the day Southern teams would come North for the semi's. Lots of people Antrim way got to see teams they wouldn't normally, made many friendships and stood a good chance of getting a result.

We would have no issue with an open draw, as long as it is properly thought through, which these things usually aren't.

It's not a facile argument, for two reasons.

The first reason relates to the tone of your original post, which insinuated that the final was 'disappointing' because Connacht/Ulster was allowed to produce a finalist, and that finalist didn't meet your requisite standard, in order for you to avoid 'disappointment'. Did it escape your attention that Crokes lost the football final by almost as much, but you didn't express any 'disappointment' at their performance, or indeed cast any slur at the merit of their route to the final. Did it cross your mind that St.Thomas's may have underperformed for one reason and another on the day, or did you just jump immediately to the conclusion that it was a mismatch because Connacht/Ulster shouldn't be a semi-final?

The second reason that it's not a facile argument is that on 10 of the 12 occasions that Galway teams have won club titles since 1992, those winning sides have beaten the Munster AND Leinster champions en route. That's a fly in the ointment for your theory that Galway as Connacht champions are somehow unworthy of taking a semi final spot, even though the competition structure dictates that the semi final spots are reserved for the 4 provincial winners. You only need to go back to 1988, and 4 Roads beating Abbey, to know that Connacht wasn't always a cakewalk either!!

Your argument to bring equity to the club championship would have been stronger imo, if you'd posted it on any given Sunday. But to post it the day after Paddy's, just because you were 'disappointed' with the final, and possibly jumped to the wrong conclusion that the Connacht/Ulster structure was directly to blame for your 'disappointment' weakened rather than strengthened your argument imo, especially when you seem to be clueless about the scale of success that Galway clubs have enjoyed over Munster & Leinster (not just Ulster) opposition, for the last 30 years.

the reason for my short post originally was i was working, not because i jumped to any conclusion.and i have made this point on here before.

i would argue that both hurling and football would be better served by a knock-out club championship, finishing up at christmas.i would argue the same for the county setup as well but that wont happen.

the average margin of defeat in a club hurling final since 2000 is 9 points, and yes galway won some of those but do you not think that is a poor reflection on what is supposed to be a match between the 2 best clubs in ireland?

i dont see your problem with putting galway/ulster teams in leinster.you cant say "they beat leinster and munster champs on route" is justification for them not having to win a provincial championship, maybe a leinster or munster team had been through a bruising provincial championship to get there?

if you "only" need to go back to 1988 then you need to look at your idea of "only".31 years?does that not seem like clutching at straws?

i can assure you of 1 thing, both the munster and leinster finals have been far tighter ran affairs over the past number of years.unfortunately, the all ireland finals have resembled a turkey shoot far too often.

you can only beat what is put in front of you but i think what is put in front of you should be a level playing field.and by the way, anthony daly made the exact same point on monday.
