All Ireland Club Hurling Championship

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Wide open this year with Cuala out of it. It's a pure cod trying to pick favorites as the teams are so close in talent and hunger. I favored Gort in Galway but that's gone now. St Thomas's vs Clarinbridge should be an awesome match and last years county champs Liam Mellows are still hanging around. It's a pure coin flip in my mind.

Replying To LarryOBrother:  "Gorey were brilliant on Sunday and if they can produce similar gutsy, passionate performances mixed with the class of McDonald they have every chance of competing in Leinster. Only negative is that this is their first ever county win so they might lose a bit of that edge going forward."
Fantastic for Gorey. Cathal Dunbar and Eoin Conroy are fine hurlers too. It can be a bit of an ask for a club that has just won its first ever senior championship to prepare for the provincial stage in such little time. However the Laois champions haven't a great record in the Leinster championship.

Replying To StoreysTash:  "Being honest, I think there should be no provincial championship. There should be a straight knock-out, there is no reason why Galway and Ulster get into semi-final easily.

In Leinster, I don't envy St. Martins or Naomh Eanna going up against Camross....."
A straight knock out competition would be brilliant.

Jack Cullen, Goreys wing back, was probably the best man on the field last Sunday- hugely impressive.

Replying To Killarney.87:  "Even with some big names gone there are loads of big guns left: Ballyhale, Ballyea, Na Piarsaigh, Kilmallock, Ballygunner, Slaghtneil, eventual Galway champions just to name a few.

I think Ballygunner can go far if they can beat Midleton on the first day out. They look like they are really well conditioned and have some very good hurlers too.

It will be interesting to see how Slaghtneil will do this time now that they are out of the football championship. The two All Ireland hurling semi final apppearances should stand to them.

You'd imagine Ballyhale won't be far off as long as TJ is fit and well, same for Ballyea with Tony Kelly."
Ballygunner impressed me in the few games I saw them last year. Looking forward to seeing them in Munster in the coming weeks. I'd expect the Gunners to have too much for Midleton and set up a semi final meeting with Ballyea. Doon and Na Piarsaigh should be a cracking Limerick final. I must say I know very little about Clonoulty Rossmore who play Doon or Na Piarsaigh in the other side.

Ballyhale could be there for the taking this weekend. They're obviously not as strong as they were in previous seasons. Shefflin has blended in a number of young players like his nephew Evan Shefflin and Adrian Mullen. They will be future Kilkenny seniors. A poster mentioned above that they've been beaten twice already in the Kilkenny championship.

Adrian Mullen is suspended, i think Bennettsbridge could give them a good rattle. They barely got over the line against Castlecomer in the semi final, last minute goal from young Shefflin saving them.

Expect another tight battle so. This Bennettsbridge team know how to win finals and they beat Ballyhale in their most recent meeting last month.

After reading the attached article about Roddy King and the injuries he suffered in the Laois SHC final, I hope Gorey hammer Camross out the gate.

Camross is the home of filthy hurlers.

Well Galway Club Hurling is finally at the Semi Final stage. St Thomas's beat Clarinbridge by a point and now must play Sarsfields while the other semi final will be Liam Mellows (defending county champs) vs Cappataggle.

Sarsfields vs St Thomas (1pm)

Cappataggle vs Liam Mellows (2:45pm)

Both matches at Kenny Park on 4 November.

Clonoulty are a small but very proud West Tipp club. They have produced some very good players over the years like Declan Ryan who is the only Tipp hurler since 1971 to win three all Irelands and in three different decades too. The legendary Joe Hayes is from there too.

John O'Neill (not sure if he is still playing) and John O'Keefe both featured for Tipp in 2011 final lost to Kilkenny. Timmy Hammersley has a medal from 2010 as does their manager Devane.

I think they will give Na Piarsaigh a good game of it but it will be hard to see them beating them.

I don't envy the treatment that the likes of Conor McDonald is likely to receive at the weekend and I hope the referees and their umpires police it.

Camross have won a couple of Leinster senior titles in the past. I meant the Laois champions in general haven't a great record in the Leinster championship overall. It was 2012 when they last won a game, Rathdowney Errill beat Clonkill.

Thanks for the info. It will be no easy game for Na Piarsaigh so.

Interesting article on Ballygunner manager Fergal Hartley on the homepage. The last paragraph about Midleton: "They were beaten by Imokilly in a county final but Imokilly are probably the best club team in the country. They're a group team, they have seventeen clubs."

Who are the seventeen clubs that make up Imokilly and would they win the All Ireland if they were allowed advance?
