Championship Struture Review

(Oldest Posts First)

After Dublin's procession to the All Ireland how good/bad has the super 8 been and does it need to be tweaked/abolished.

Personally I would prefer to introduce 2 more teirs with re entry for the winner of each to an all Ireland Q final v super 8 group runner up

To facilitate that we should seed the provincial championships with losing provincial q finalists and preliminary rounds into 1 competition (Lower 16) and losing semi finalists into another (middle 8) with the winners of each progressing to all Ireland q final

If more dates are needed in the calendar modify the league to mirror the hurling league (groups of 6 with just divisional finals)

Would also make sure the final rounds of round robin stages are played at Neutral venues (neutral venue cannot be the same as your nominationed home venue and doesn't have to be Croke Park) as double headers (or even triple headers if their are any dead rubbers)

I don't like the Lower 16 automatically having those beaten in Prov QFs, given the depth in Uls and lack thereof elsewhere, especially Lein.
I prefer my own tweaks to the existing two-stream structure -
- Extend the Front Door stream and curtail the Back Door, both by one round.
- Each current 1st Qual Rd pairing draws a Prov SF loser as well (forming 8 groups of 3, with loser of 1st group match playing again in the 3rd match).
- Top 2 from each group join 4 Prov Final losers in 20-team KO Rd 2 (8 2nds and 2 worst group 1sts drawn away).
- 10 Rd 2 winners join 2 Prov Champs Playoff Rd losers in 12-team KO Rd 3 (6 of 10 worst NFL ranked Rd 2 winners drawn away).
- 6 Rd 3 winners join the only 2 unbeaten Prov Champs in the AI KO QFs (revert to KO at neutral Prov grounds).
- AI SFs are (1st or 8th NFL ranked) v (4th or 5th); and (2nd or 7th) v (3rd or 6th) - also played at neutral Prov grounds.
- Croke Park Final.

Bigger problem - game needs to be more attractive to watch - introduce: a) long-range scores worth a 'point and a half'; b) no back pass allowed across opponent's 65; and kick outs must cross own 45 with each team in a 6-2-6 formation (2x2 between the 65s, most likely contesting kick outs for potential marks).
