Does Anyone Remember...

(Oldest Posts First)

Last year when there were posters on here who didn't rate Ciaran Kilkenny. He doesn't score enough, all he does is pass the ball 20 metres etc.

There's some foolish rubbish gets thrown up on here, I'm glad the passing of time has shown how idiotic those comments were.

Ha, great post.

Top scorer from play this year and has had a great season.

To be fair to people he was playing a different role in the team that people maybe didn't like. For me he was veering a little too much on the side of caution at times and slowing down Dublin's attack. He's gotten the balance better this year and Dublin have reaped the benefit.

I don't think many said he was no good or that they didn't rate him.

We knew from seeing him at minor level that he was a cracking footballer, likewise at club level.

My opinion, and that of a few others, was that Dublin's system of play last year left him playing a robotic, monotonous recycling game and didn't allow him to display the obvious talent he has.

He played closer to goal this year and has been excellent.

He hasn't really played closer to goal he's just been more positive in his play. He still looks for safety a lot but he's become a bit better and sensing when he has his own chance to take on his man and score.

He has played closer to goal.

Your analysis is correct otherwise.

I do indeed, cos I like you was made feel like a fool for suggesting it.

I think some posters on here rate posts based on the county the poster is from as opposed to what he/ she has to say.

I love the way Kilkenny punches subtle holes in organised defences and links the play. He is a joy to watch since the first time I saw him against Tipp in the 2011 minor final.

There's not much else to talk about in the world of senior intercounty football.

I think people were critical of the system that saw him back in his own half handpassing the ball back and forth. There was a stat on the number of hand passes after one game that was absolutely ridiculous, can't remember the details but I do remember thinking what a waste of talent at the time. I don't think anybody was critical of Kilkenny as a player. His has been one of the best in the country for a couple of years now and I think nearly everyone acknowledges that.

Yup, Jack O'Shea does come to mind. Although admittedly, when Jacko passed that comment, Kilkenny was playing junior football. However, there's a huge difference in being junior by name, and in being junior by nature! And it's a strength of Dublin that they pick you if you're good enough, irespective of what level your club plays at!

Guess what Jacko? The "junior" footballer is gonna achieve what your 'mighty boots' failed to do--the 5!
