Replying To Muineachain76:  "Karl O Connell Rory Beggan Conor Mc Manus all three Monaghan lads have played well from the start of the year and not just when it counted in big games"
I think all 3 are automatic selections
The other automatic selections for me
Fenton, Cooper, Kilkenny, Howard, McCaffrey
Clifford
Tiernan McCann, Colm Cavanagh
Ryan McHugh
Sean Andy O'Ceallaigh

Other guys in with a shout Peter Harte, Drew Wylie, Damian Comer, Shane Walsh, Ian Burke (I think at least one Galway lad will get in the full forward line). I also think Paul Mannion deserves a nomination. People have commented on his lack of scoring this year but he shot the lights out against Galway and in games where he wasn't scoring his work rate was top notch. If he has a good final he could get in yet

I would have given it to Fenton last year and he's been even better this year. You can still get him at 11/4 on PP

C Kilkenny has had another fantastic year, expect him to get it if result goes according to expectations. If Tyrone pull off a shock them C Cavanagh has a good shout.

I'd be surprised if Fenton doesn't get it.

I see a lot of people mentioning Colm Cavanagh. Objectively, if this award is based on the entire championship, he really shouldn't be in the running.

He was outstanding against Monaghan in the Semi and had an outstanding 2nd half against Donegal in a game he probably should have been sent off in. Cavanagh is a brilliant player but look at how he has performed in the other games. He was nothing special v Cork or Cavan. Very average v Roscommon. Shockingly bad v Dublin at Healy Park. Poor V Meath and poor v Monaghan in the first game. (Probably wasn't fit). I didn't see the Carlow game so can't comment.

I just think there are other players for Tyrone who have been a lot more consistent throughout the championship but haven't had an eye catching performance like Cavanagh has had in one or two games. But we've seen plenty of players pick up All Stars for just that throughout the years.

Fenton for myself anyway.

Brian Fenton is the stand out player and has been consistently brilliant this campaign.

If he has a decent game on Sunday, it should seal a well deserved recognition for him.

Kilkenny by a squeak over Fenton player the year.
Howard and Clifford hard to separate for Young player, if Howard has a big final it might swing it his way.

Replying To Liamwalkinstown:  "Regards Hannon, not sure how you make out he is hurler of the year?
For me it should be Graham Mulcahy but I doubt it will be.

I am guessing you think it will be Aaron Gillane or Joe canning in hurling and Ciaran KK in football?"
Apologies for hijacking the thread but Hannon was the clear player of the year this year. Single biggest reason why Limerick won the All Ireland. Anyone that watched all Limerick's games could see that. One of Mulcahy and Gaillane won't get an All Star.
The Players of the Year have been a huge joke since the new voting system came in. There's no transparency in it. It is now very clearly a player picked with a high profile so the GAA can promote the game.
Dublin players dont get the award because they dont do the media stuff other players do.

Fenton all day long for me but when McCarthy didnt get it last year then it could really be anyone.
