Best Hurler Never To Win An All-Ireland Medal (Your County And Overall)

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

My County hurling
A toss up between Ciaran Carey or Andrew O'Shaughnessy

Football
John Galvin is the easy choice but people forget how good John Quane and Johnny McCarthy were for our footballers

Others counties hurling
Dan Shanahan or Ollie Canning

Football
Kieran McDonald of Mayo is by far the best footballer I have seen not to win an all-Ireland medal.

Guys still playing I think Seamus Harnedy, Pat Horgan and Austin Gleeson are the best hurlers who haven't won an all Ireland medal. Conor McManus, David Clifford and Lee Keegan are the best footballers who haven't won an all Ireland medal.

an impossible ask but two of the best I ever seen not to win, in hurling was Ciaran Carey of Limerick & Tony Browne of Waterford, less prominent counties from by gone years, Pat Critchley, John Taylor and Niall Rigney of Laois, we couldnt pass Paddy Kelly of Limerick James Shanahan and Sean Durack and Ger Loughane...

Football Dermot Earley, Niall Buckley & Glen Ryan and Anthony Rainbow, Johnny Doyle, Johnny Nevin of Carlow in both codes, Ciaran McDonald of Mayo, Vinny Claffey and Peter Brady of Offaly...Frank McGuigan Snr of Tyrone, Brian McAllinden, Ger Houlihan, Paul Davis, we could name of hundreds...all excellent players never to win, most only remember the one ones who lost an All Ireland will outside them counties will never have heard of some of the playerI mention above.

Shane Brick was a wonderful player, from memory there were a couple of very very good hurlers around that time on that Kerry panel...cant remember them off the top of my head, but Brick was some talent..

His brother Billy was quite good as well but finished up young enough maybe mid 20s.

Michael Slattery was also very good at that time.

I remember them that time, and they would put it up to most teams, competitive yes they were..DJ Leahy was another fine fine hurler from days gone by for Kerry...scored a goal early on in the famous win against Waterford in 1993....

Brendan O Sullivan was another during the 90s. Won a Railway Cup in the mid 90s.

Christy Walsh around the same time. Was also a Railway Cup winning and Kilkenny tried to get him to join them during the 90s.

Regardless of what some on here think. Kerry have always been able to produce hurlers who pound for pound have been as good as any one from Tipp, Cork etc The issue is there's such a small pool of players.

yes Kerry are really putting a lot of other counties to shame in Hurling considering they are the powerhouse of Tradition with Football. Theres even new hurling clubs starting up down there i heard in listowel or tralee somewhere like that. For the size of their Hurling area population, number of clubs and of course the huge tradition of the football what they are doing is tremendous, Shane Brick was another fine hurler in the 00s so much so limerick wanted him to transfer in 2004 and there was an O connell lad that time too v good. Shane Conway now is testimont to whats happening there im fairly sure he would be on most if not all teams in the country.

Even at Fitzgibbon level Shane Conway has stood out, he's a top class player.
