I find it baffling that after all the big games, Football final, Hurling Final etc that it's never mentioned on the sports news on sky sports. 1951andwaiting (Galway) - Posts: 82 - 22/08/2018 11:42:40 2135555 Link 1 |
I thought they did show clips of the finals on sky sports news? And I don't know if that would work tbh, I see clips of cricket and tennis and it doesn't make me want to watch them sports. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 22/08/2018 11:57:13 2135564 Link 1 |
sky know that the goals from a league 2 game probably get more attention than the highlights of the all ireland final. perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3929 - 22/08/2018 11:57:54 2135565 Link 0 |
With all due respect to cricket and tennis I would be of the impression that if you saw 2 minutes of hurling you would probably want to see more. But each to their own. just thought its extra coverage that should'ave been included in the sky deal, better it on sports news than not

What do you expect when one of the chief negotiators admitted recently when interviewed that he knew nothing about the service Sky provided as he hadn't even a Sky subscription & didn't watch matches on the television !!!! This is an organisation with huge logistical back up, staff & massive financial resources, who when advertising for the CEO/Ard Stiurothoir position this year they had to redraw the requirements needed prior to interviews. It's a reflection on the running of the whole Association when it couldn't even agree or get it right, for its main position within it. Uimhir.a.3. One big positive of sky is that they show the matchs in full again on the Monday . In a pub Monday morning watching the whole game build up etc again . Their camera angles etc too looks a lot slicker than RTÉ . OpenStand (Limerick) - Posts: 658 - 22/08/2018 13:22:24 2135591 Link 1 |
No I agree with you, it would help for sure , but as far as I know they do show clips of the final on sky sports news , they did when we won back in 2014 anyway.

One of the many rubbish arguments supporters of the sky deal used was how sky would promote the gaa. This and really all there other arguments turned out to be nonsense. The sky deal has been a failure for the gaa. ros1 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1211 - 22/08/2018 18:06:00 2135680 Link 0 |
Has it been a failure for the Gaa? I'm not being smart because I genuinely don't know, like what were the Gaa's expectations? and how do they compare to the results?

Does anyone know what kind of viewing figures Sky did for the AI hurling final? The RTE figures were impressive, but I'm not sure if Sky release that kind of info. It would be interesting to see what Sky viewing figures were for it, and how it broke down per region (Ireland V Britain V Continental Europe etc) Marlon_JD (Tipperary) - Posts: 1823 - 22/08/2018 20:24:07 2135714 Link 0 |
They always show at least 30 seconds of clips of games, even the one that are shown on rte, and also for an hour they had the breaking news that Limerick are Champions, id prefer longer coverage on the news channel but there only a soccer news channel and a bit of cricket PyatPree (Cork) - Posts: 376 - 22/08/2018 20:26:53 2135716 Link 0 |
i would say it has been a disaster for sky,i doubt anybody who doesnt have any interest in other sports was suddenly forking out 40 quid a month. as i work in a bar/hotel,i see the replays etc and dont have sky at home. perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3929 - 23/08/2018 09:42:45 2135830 Link 0 |
