Tyrone Boycott Of RTE

Replying To lasttoknow:  "best way to stop this mess, rte to quit showing tyrone games live, including the all ireland final.
that would really hit them a kick home to a lot of folk who are fed up with the whole thing"
Ah no, that would be too drastic a measure,
Often wonder why the Ulster council didn't have more backbone and offer their games to another broadcaster at a time when RTE pundits were competing with each other for the funniest, most offensive put down of Ulster teams. Its was like RTE had to endure broadcasting Ulster matches but still hyped up their coverage when big guns met in prelim/1st round at a time when nothing much was happening in other provinces apart from minnows getting thrashed. Thought it would be perfect having BBC/TV3/tg4 cover Ulster matches which would free up RTE to show counties we seldom see as well as pleasing posters who continually complain of 'having to' watch Ulster football. Its been a while since I saw a live match on RTE involving Wicklow, Louth, Leitrim, Waterford footballers etc..
I'm not sure about the politics of all this thought as Croke Park may over rule a provincial council or how much the current TV deal is worth to individual counties...anyone know?

Replying To ulsterrules:  "If Tyrone win sky will have interviews with anyone they want from Tyrone. If offaly ever become an interest to rte and they get treated the same way as Tyrone and Mikey harte has been then I'm sure you will change your tune . Your not called biffo's for no reason . Until then I hope Tyrone stick with it.

Amatuer sports people do not deserve any stick when rte are making money off these boys backs"

Donegal is a fine county with the finest of people, with an odd exception.

Offaly will always be of interest to RTE, because of our achievements in hurling and football from a small base.
We were winning games when Donegal couldn't get out of Ulster, unless by bus or car.
Offaly may be in a valley period at the moment, but we will keep on trying, that is why we are called The Faithful County.

As regards BIFFOs, sure that means Beautiful intelligent female from Offaly, or Bright intelligent fellow from Offaly. We don't mind the title at all, sure we are a very tolerant county and have people from all over Ireland and abroad living here.

I see the programme that's on TG4 about Tyrone at the minute has not been listed in the tv programme guide on RTE, maybe I'm a conspiracy theorist but I have not seen this happen before.

Not an RTÉ thing at all, not on schedule on free view either. Excellent program, an exceptional group of people/ players we were just lucky to have coming through all at the same time. So much tragedy surrounding them too!

Yes great programme, I hope ye win next Sunday.I have a feeling Tyrone will pull of another shock as we did in 2014,
Tyrone by 2 points.

Hilarious. On the one hand, Tyrone players and management are slated for 'ruining football'; and 'it'd be better for the game if Tyrone and other Ulster teams were banned' etc etc. And now you're crying about being 'denied' a few meaningless, bland interviews with the same players ye consider to be ruining football. In reality, the absence of Tyrone players or officials from RTE is of no consequence to anyone, and all this bleating about it is pure hypocrisy. The real motivation is just another excuse to have a dig at Tyrone. I hope Harte sticks to his guns.

Replying To WildPundit:  "Look they have their gripe and wouldnt it be weird if they win and RTE are not allowed into the banquet and would a Tyrone player even accept the MOTM award.
Dublin will probably win anyway so we may not have that problem but it will be a fairly drab Sunday Game highlights show after the AI."
no tyrone player has accepted an rte motm award for the past 7 years...not going to happen now

Replying To clooney:  "You can see Mickey Hartes point back then after his daughters death it was in very poor taste by John Murray but you cannot put a blanket over all off RTE GAA is an entertainment business as well as Sport and people enjoy watching their local heroes being interviewed on RTE.

RTE in my opinion give great coverage and the Panel such as Sean Cavanagh adds hugely to a big game so surely Mickey can do his own thing and not talk to anyone but that ban should not apply to Tyrone panel IMO

Sports journalists have a job to do as well and make a living."
tyrone speak to every media outlet apart from rte so plenty of sports journalists get plenty of opportunities to interview mickey harte and the tyrone team

Excellent read.

I just hope RoyalDunne reads this with an open mind and sees where most people on here are coming from."
Listen to me for a second. It's grandstanding for the sake of it this long on. You and I both know that should mh go after this year rte will have full access to Tyrone next year. Look at Sean cavanagh. My point is that it's getting silly now, where as in the beginning it was absolutely right and a stance I supported. Just it's gone on too long now. What would resolve it for harte? If nothing then so be it. But you and I both know Tyrone will be doing interviews etc with rte as soon as harte is gone."]whats your point?...the actual point is that the current tyrone squad and management refuse to work with rte a justly so...it is not a matter of it "going on too long"...what right have you make that supposition?...it's a matter of principle for mickey harte and the tyrone squad...what happens under future management teams is irrelevant

If that sketch was indeed intentional, which many believe that it was, then Harte is perfectly entitled to boycott RTE and his players are right to back their manager over it. They're playing for Tyrone after all, not for RTE.

On a seperate note entirely, RTE sport down the years, through a number of commentators have been harsh and agenda driven in their 'analysis' of Tyrone while fawning over other counties, so Tyrone hardly owe them one iota. Stuff them.

RTE won't stop showing Tyrone playing, they'll just wait for Harte's tenure to end and hope normal service is resumed.
