I've never been to Salthill either. I can only remember 1 game where Wexford played them in Salthill, last years league, I wasn't there but I know it was a wet auld day so I doubt it was a big job to get in/out of the place.
I don't know when they last would have played there otherwise, definitely not in championship, but I too have heard commentators on the radio saying it is the worst ground in the country to get out of! In fact, I think Cyril Farrell or Anthony Daly said before that Kilkenny match that it'd take a week to get the crowd in and a week to get them out!!

Perfect10: I'm in my 70's now so take the bus to matches rather than drive as can't manage the walk but this is not my first match. I have been to over 30 munster finals in Semple, Gaelic Grounds, PUC and even a couple in Killarney and I can tell you I have never seen more of a shambles than last Sunday. Also I don't understand your point re Salthill, obviously it wouldn't be able to host an All Ireland semi final, it doesn't have the infrastructure. This thread was not menat as a critism of Thurles, it will always be the home of hurling and my favourite venue outside of croke park (I havn't been to the new PUC yet). My critisism is of the GAA hierarchy who scheduled the game and clearly did nothing about the traffic consisderations in places like Nenagh, Birr, Templemore etc etc etc.

I was in Thurles 2 hours before throw in last Sunday but I travelled from Dublin. The fact is though that the roads from Galway to Thurles are not built for heavy traffic, there is a bridge at Portumna that is raised to allow boats up the shannon and last Sunday there was a vintage car show in Birr which caused havoc.People did leave in good time but still missed half the game. That is not right. The throw in was not delayed as it could have been.In the past I have seen throw in delayed because the Dubs were still in the pub!
The replay should have been in Croke Park, thats why it was built wasn't it?

the roads from wexford to cork (or thurles btw) are far from motorways, there was chaos in castlemartyr, yet we found ourselves there 2 years in a row.
yes i agree it should have been in croke park, would you have been ok with a bank holiday match though?because they couldnt just change the games which had been planned weeks in advance so that was your alternative.
believe me,i know how you feel about dreadful venues after this year!
as bad as you had it,your camogie team had it even worse and not a word about it?

People complaining about the match should have been played in Croker are probably same people who say GAA should use Provincial grounds more

The Hoganstand.com National Forum should be renamed the Hoganstand.com National Moanbox.

Nothing but bitching and negativity these days.

They did. It beats me why a camogie game between Galway & Dublin is played in Cork?
Surely to God Tullamore was the obvious venue? That would have been thinking of the poor sods who go to games though.
