Was reading the article just there on Cody about half time speeches and something came to mind. WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 13/07/2018 11:19:48 2121261 Link 0 |
Limerick are fecked so, I was thinking they had a great chance of making at least the final. TheHermit (Kerry) - Posts: 6354 - 13/07/2018 11:52:55 2121280 Link 1 |
The thing jumping out at me from that post is they have been in all but 4 finals since and including 2002. That's madness!

well sure you have to play the hand you are dealt.hopefully limerick will knock them out on sunday and we take clare as i think we have a better chance against the rebels than against galway! perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3929 - 13/07/2018 14:15:10 2121332 Link 0 |

That's the key point. In the 20 years 1998-2017, KK have reached a staggering SIXTEEN finals. Incidently, go back just one year before that, to 1997, and you'll find that Clare ko'd KK in the semi, before beating Tipp in the final. Cody wasn't in charge until the 1999 season. In Cody's first 18 seasons (1999-2016), he reached 15 finals, winning 11 and losing 4. Cody's tenure is in it's 20th season now, and remarkably in those two decades, Kilkenny have never been out of the all-ireland final pairing for even TWO successive seasons. That's why the pressure is on in 2018! On Limerick, maybe!

And they have only been beaten in an All Ireland final by Cork twice and Tipp twice under Cody. WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 13/07/2018 16:14:00 2121378 Link 0 |
On the flip side if you don't beat KK then you don't even get there at all! For some teams beating KK "is" their All Ireland in a sense...

Cork & Tipp had 9 goes at it though, to deliver those 4, and of course one of those Cork wins occurred when Cody barely had his legs under the table in the KK job. Galway have just beaten KK twice in six weeks in championship hurling. There should be a trophy for that!! Pope_Benedict (Galway) - Posts: 3417 - 13/07/2018 16:57:53 2121387 Link 1 |
There were reasons why Galway didn't win the 2001 and 2005 All Ireland's but they had nothing to do with beating KK in the semi finals!

Maybe the teams that knocked kilkenny out in those years weren't good enough to win the final... ? waynoI (Dublin) - Posts: 13650 - 13/07/2018 18:02:15 2121407 Link 1 |

I had to read this twice just to make sure it was saying what I thought it was. "Any county which has knocked Kilkenny out of the All-Ireland championship has reached the AI Final but has never defeated their opponent!! " Are you aware that Kilkenny have been contesting All-Irelands for over 130 years? For example (and there are many) Wexford knocked Kilkenny out of the 1968 Championship and beat Tipperary in the AI Final. Cockney_Cat (UK) - Posts: 2454 - 14/07/2018 09:21:18 2121497 Link 0 |

No need for your apologies Wild, I got your drift. it's just the devil in me, picking up on minor errors. An interesting fact all the same.

Apart from the teams who knocked them out in the final. They all won the All Ireland. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2039 - 14/07/2018 20:45:25 2121714 Link 0 |
