Eamonn Burns has gone after a disappointing three years but with the highlight of impressive run to the Ulster final last year. He deserves credit for having the guts to take the job when hardly anyone else wanted it and I wish him well. REDANDBLACK30 (Down) - Posts: 1617 - 04/07/2018 11:17:58 2118377 Link 0 |
Deegan managed the U-20s this year not the minors, Wee James has managed the minors for the past 3 years or so and with a proven record would be a better shout than Deegan

Yeah sorry I should have said the under 20s. James McCartan's minor team lost to Monaghan after extra time. Your right could be a good shout but would Down county board give him the job again. REDANDBLACK30 (Down) - Posts: 1617 - 04/07/2018 12:13:54 2118411 Link 0 |

The Belfast Telegraph said that Steven Poacher/ Shane Mulholland and Oisin McConville are other candidates. Also mentioned Conleith Gilligan as an outsider. REDANDBLACK30 (Down) - Posts: 1617 - 04/07/2018 13:48:43 2118466 Link 0 |

I heard that Deegan had been sounded out for 2019 senior job just before the Cavan match a couple of weeks ago. He appears to be the cheap option for a county board that seem to be limited to shopping at Lidl/Aldi due to lack of funds and he may well see it as an opportunity to make a name for himself as a manager. However that was a strong U-20 panel he had this year though and the general perception is that it under achieved downredhand (Tyrone) - Posts: 567 - 04/07/2018 17:19:15 2118558 Link 0 |
Harsh opinion. How many senior inter county teams have to managed or by linked with? The_Fridge (Tyrone) - Posts: 2088 - 04/07/2018 17:34:54 2118566 Link 0 |
Yeah I saw someone wrote on Down county board forum that Deegan has been told the job is his. It would also follow the pattern of giving the job to the heroes of 91 and 94. I was at the match against Derry under 20s before Donegal and Deegan seemed to get his subsitutions wrong. Yet hopefully he could learn from the debacle against Derry.

I had heard poacher was staying with Carlow next year but I'd imagine if the chance to manage his own county came up it would be hard to turn down Barrowsider (Carlow) - Posts: 1592 - 05/07/2018 23:27:38 2118986 Link 0 |
