This is not me having a pop at Dublin (assuming the win Leinster) about them playing to 2 of their 3 games in Croke Park in the super 8's stage. I think most Dublin supporters would agree with me that they would rather play at another provincial ground for their neutral game rather than croke park. It's set up for the winners of Ulster to play the winners of Leinster in the opening round of the super 8's and it is fixed for Croke Park but imagine if the winners of Fermanagh and Donegal played them in Clones instead? Dublin supporters travel in great numbers and you would have close to if not a sell out in Clones for this sort of game. It would be great for the GAA and don't think they'd lose out financially. The craic in Clones before and after the game would be epic. Mobot (Donegal) - Posts: 459 - 13/06/2018 10:44:22 2110905 Link 1 |
I think we should play our home game in Parnell Park. It'd be great craic. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13693 - 13/06/2018 10:56:26 2110909 Link 2 |
So, if Donegal win Ulster & play Dublin in the Super 8's you are telling me that Croke Park will be the "neutral" venue?? How can anyone in authority propose this as being fair with a straight face? The whole idea of playing games at neutral venues is so that neither team gets an advantage. Is there no shame left anymore? When is the last time Dublin played a game there? I think it's fair to say Croke park has been their home venue for some time now

Why aren't we playing the Connacht winners? They not doing the 3 year thing anymore? It should be Connacht this year? Ridiculous we play 2 games at home, it's not about favouring Dublin it's about the dollars. Big away games is what we've been crying out for for years. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 13/06/2018 11:43:08 2110944 Link 1 |
This is actually a great point and one which is overlooked quite a bit in the media and both professional and social medial. Dublin GAA don't really have a say in it, and they get tons of abuse on this when in fact its GAA HQ making this decision based purely from a financial standpoint The_DOC (Galway) - Posts: 705 - 13/06/2018 11:45:45 2110948 Link 3 |
It's not Dublin's fault to be fair but people saying that Dublin could play their home games at Parnell park are being very naive. Dublin don't even play their home league games there never mind their championship matches....

The first round of fixtures in each group will see the two provincial champions and the two qualifiers meet in Croke Park which is being touted as a "neutral" venue. It is of course no such thing & immediately places Dublin, assuming they beat Laois, at an advantage in their group as they will effectively have two home games out of three wheras the other teams will have only one. Agreed, it is all about the bucks. Funny thing is If the Leinster/Ulster game was played in Clones or Cavan I think the crowd would be nearly as big & the atmosphere would be great with full grounds as opposed to Croker which can feel empty with anything less than 50,000 in it.

Not sure, this is the first year of the super 8's so I suppose it's probably done differently. The Ulster and Leinster champions are in one group with 2 qualifiers and the Munster and Connacht champions are in the same group with the other 2 qualifiers. Then for example if Dublin top their group and Galway/Roscommon come second in theirs they would meet in the semis.

One home, one away, one neutral - same rules should apply to every county and Dublin are no different. Kurt_Angle (Dublin) - Posts: 567 - 13/06/2018 11:55:21 2110957 Link 0 |
Biggest problem is all teams in the super 8s play 1 home, 1 away and the 3rd game in Croke Park which is a neutral venue, if the GAA decide to have Dublin's neutral game in for example Semple Stadium Thurles then their opponents will complain that they are being cheated out of getting a game in Croke Park before a possible semi final match but a number of counties around the capital could also claim Croke Park as their home ground like Kildare and Meath who regularly play championship matches in Croke Park, (of course Meath are out this year). Most counties will say it's all the sweeter to try and beat the dubs in Croke Park even though majority have failed riverboys (Mayo) - Posts: 1389 - 13/06/2018 11:55:33 2110959 Link 1 |

A packed PP would be great craic. It won't happen as the 31 counties want their pounds (or euros) of flesh. If enough other counties want us to play all our super 8 games in Killarney then that is what would happen. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13693 - 13/06/2018 11:59:23 2110966 Link 1 |
Clones would be a perfect neutral venue for the game vs Donegal/Fermanagh. Imagine playing Dublin in the cauldron that is St Tiernach's park in Clones for a championship game. That would be something special. There is something special about being in Clones on championship day. Disaster of a town to get parked at but it's well worth the hassle once you're there. Dislike Clones. Never understood people's grá for it as a ground. The terrace along the side of the pitch must be one of worst places in the world to watch a match from. You're miles away form the pitch and the atmosphere just disappears out of the ground. And I've been there when it's full too.
