6 Team Leinster Hurling Championship?

Leave it the way it is lads.

There is a gulf in standard. Increasing to 6 teams in Leinster would only mean that Offaly would get to beat one team a year to stay in a championship where they haven't been competitive for a long time.

Relegating the 5th team was always a bit draconian. It was ok under the old system where the top 2 in the qualifier group took the 6th and 7th spots in the Leinster Championship quarter-finals of the same year.

There was always going to be some tweaking once the new format got it's first airing. One or two rest weeks should definitely be added as well.

The top 5 in both provincial championships should retain their place. The 6th team in one of these provincial championships should be the McDonagh Cup winner.

Sure Offaly might only have to beat one team to stay in Leinster. If the McDonagh Cup winner is good enough, they will beat Offaly for the 5th and final secure spot.

If Westmeath and Offaly both participate in Leinster next year and Kerry were to win the McDonagh Cup. The 6th team in Leinster should be relegated. Kerry should be the 6th team in Munster. Leinster would have 5 teams for that year. It will mean both provincial championships having the same relegation system. Top 5 are safe. The 6th team in one of the provincial championships will be the McDonagh Cup winner.

I think a straight up 10 team league is the way to go.

Top 4 qualify for semifinals

Super simple and exciting.

I'd have the top 7 automatically retain their place for the following season plus the tier 2 champion.

There'd be a qualifier tournament for the final 2 spots before the start of that 10 team league.

Yup - works for me.
Last week, GAA management announced yet another committee (also known as talking shop) to review club/county and comp structure issues. Given the underwhelming prior output from both the McGee review and Central Council's review of 'the 18 proposals', I'm not getting too excited about the latest reincarnation.

So you would relegate a team like Waterford who were in the All Ireland final last year to the Mc Donagh cup due simply to a really poor run of luck......sorry but that's madness I'm all for promotion of hurling but McDonagh cup teams are already getting a very good deal better indeed than the Ring teams trying to get into the McDonagh cup.......just think McDonagh teams need to be careful what they push for as I think current system is more than fair but they risk throwing the baby out with the bath water by pushing for more which really isn't justifiable .......

Its simple just like the club scene the intermediate winner goes up the bottom team in senior goes down. Why the drama.

The system this year has worked well. i still feel that Kerry should
be promoted automatically to Leinster if they finish top though.

See you at Croker !
