Falling USFC Attendances

(Oldest Posts First)

I feel that the Ulster Council needs to look at its
pricing structure again. There has been particular evidence this year of people being priced out/ making the decision that the cost of attending matches is too high. The match at Pairc Esler between Down and Antrim played out in front a low crowd of 5,500 which led to a subdued atmosphere. A first round game between the same two counties in 2000 attracted 16,500. Prices need to come down especially for first round USFC matches as there have been empty seats at Brewster Park, Celtic Park etc also.

35 quid a ticket might have something to do with that!

Scandalous price to pay for provincial football.

It is but 15 for a terrace ticket isn't too bad and it was a nice summer's evening. The style of football was very different in 2000 to what it is now, I'd say that explains much of the drop in attendance as well. I don't remember a single shoulder challenge in Saturdays game which is incredible for an Ulster championship game. Spectators come to watch blood and thunder football, not endless uncontested kickouts. 2000 also had no backdoor, maybe it's time to go back to do or die football.

Yeah 15 quid not too bad for standing but 35 is scandalous stuff.

Should be no more than 20 quid for first round and quarters, 25 for semi-final and then 30 quid for the final.

50 EUR for 2 adults and 2 kids in covered seats in the Munster hurling championship. Big difference. By and large I thing the GAA ticket prices are very good value but 35 for that game is very excessive.

MesAmis, that is a good pricing structure you proposed there.

Yeah I really can't see the justification for those prices.

GAA is generally quite good at prices as you say.

putting the match around the same time as the Champions League final with a team as popular as Liverpool playing in it wouldnt have helped the attendance. if they moved the game to 5pm it might have brought the numbers up a bit.

But Antrim have played their part in the worst games of the first round of Ulster for the last 3 years and Saturday was a continuation of that. a horrible game to pay those prices in to see. the numbers dont lie.
