SFC Qualifiers round 1 draw

Hey on a side note. Has anyone seen the poster called st conleth? Genuine question.
Not a sign of him. Meath took a bad beating on Sunday, I was first on here to congratulate longford on a deserved win. Jesus why does some supporters disappear after a defeat? Either you take the bloody rough with the smooth or don't bother. I have slagged off Kildare in past. But I genuinely want them to beat Derry. Should (as is likely to happen) Tyrone beat Meath, I'll be on here wishing them luck. I don't give it if I can't take it. Why is so many posters go hiding after a surprise loss, ? Remember 51longago? Thegatekeeper?

Replying To macca999:  "Good that all Ulster teams avoided each other for a change.

Pity none of these games will be televised!!

1 put of 18 football championship games televised so far!! Not good enough, during the league bes 3 live games every weekend!"
I wish, by Rule, all pairings were 'Inter Prov' in the Qualifiers going forward - it would target a balanced draw as good as this year's initial rd.

Imagine after the Prov SFs, each SF loser is asigned to one of the 1st Rd Pairings as well, to form 8 groups of 3 - dead rubbers are impossible if the Prov SF and 1st Rd Qualifier losers meet in the last group match, prior to the top 2 in each of 8 groups advancing (to the 2nd KO Rd of 20, incl Prov Final losers).
With 10 Rd 2 winners joining 2 Prov Champs Playoff Rd losers in Rd 3 - 6 Rd 3 winners then could join 2 unbeaten Prov Champs in the AI KO QFs.
This produces greater balance - to be AI Champ, Prov SF 16 need to go 6-0 thru Front Door or 6-1 via Back Door, while the 24 non-Prov Finalists need to succeed in 6 straight rds via Back Door as well.
This contrasts with the current 5-0 (or varying 6-1 or 4-1), and 7 straight rds, respectively - which is a bit messy.

Tyrones injuries combined with home advantage for Meath and Meaths hunger for a big championship win - Meath to win by 1 point, maye even after extra time

Kieran McGeeney's teams have a long history of 1st round championship exits followed by long runs in the qualifiers and on this basis I predict Armagh to overcome Westmeath

Derry away is a tough one for Kildare and home advantage will probably see Derry as favourites. If this Kildare team is to grow and progress they need to come through a serious battle as winners, I think this is the draw that we need to provide that examination, and despite 12 losses in a row I think we will turn the corner and win next weekend

its a great draw for limerick , mayo will win, look last year we lost to wexford in from of id say 500, this year we will play in front of possible 5/6 k , given the huge hurling games coming up id expect it to be all mayo, but for most of our lads this is the biggest crowd theyd have played in from of (since kildare in 2012) ,

Whats the general mood in the Meath camp, are they going good or is it another win for Tyrone over the slient Leinster giant. Im not in a hopeful mood to be honest, our team is a bit ravaged by uncertainty and injury. If Meath want one over us, this is the time to do it. Would fairly knock Harte on his behind if Meath took the spoils.....might even put him on the job seekers list.

Gonna go with 3 Leinster wins over 3 ulster sides. (Unlikely I know) so Meath Kildare and Westmeath to prevail. Show there is still fight in the province.

Mood in the Meath camp doesn't look great to be honest and not there's little confidence In this team. A large number of players left the panel earlier in the year and before the championship which didn't help the management to be fair.

Haven't seen anything all year that would suggest we will beat Tyrone and no supporters i speak with think we will. In my own view its tge worst Meath team i have seen in over 30 years watching them.

However having said that I'm glad we drew Tyrone it's the kind of game Meath can produce a performance especially in Navan. I think it will be similar to our game with Donegal last year. Decent performance by Meath but Tyrone to win by no more than 3.

Funnily enough anyone I speak to from Meath think we will win. Said it's exactly what we needed. And many agree with graham Geraghty. Also the only time I have seen or heard nothing from Meath camp for past two weeks. Don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. But confidence among supporters seems higher than I would have thought. I think we will win and beat Tyrone at their own game.

Well done to Kildare!

Good win and looks to have been a good game with plenty of scores

2.14 - 2.22

Nice tally for Kildare and they needed that win big time! There would have been considerable pressure on the management team if they lost another one on the bounce

Now Kildare can look forward to the draw with a much needed spring in their step

Well done Kildare. Could easily have taken the defeat to Carlow as a que to exit but have at least come back with their first win in 13 games.
Not sure what's next, but for now at least a good old shootout with Derry will do. Still in it for another round anyway.

Yerra... take Cillian O'Connor's contribution out of the scoreline and Mayo only managed a draw against Limerick:) Joking aside, no heart attacks, but Limerick were better than the scoreline suggests. Good to get the win and hopefully a reasonable draw tomorrow. Also good to see Cillian back in top form...some haul for one game. Great appreciation for TP and well deserved.

It's incredible that the calibre of teams in the pot of the winners for round 1 of the qualifiers is far better than that of the provincial semi final losers, semi final losers of Leitrim, Sligo, down, Clare, carlow, longford - coming through round 1 of the qualifiers is mayo, Tyrone, Kildare, Cavan, Armagh. Round 1 qualifier winners should win 6 out of 8 of these games at least. If ever an indicment of our out of date provincial championships it is this. Provincial semi finalists should be of a far better quality

Was remarking the same thing. Monaghan and Tipp stand out in Pot 2, but to be fair, apart from Tyrone and Mayo, Pot 1 is largely populated by sides who were surprisingly beaten in their provinces. Tyrone and Mayo were simply victims of the sort of provincial draws which Munster never allows. Imagine if Kerry and Cork were to regularly face off in May?... they'd be left with same dilemma Mayo has had to face these last 3 years: go early and shoot your bolt... hold off and risk the back door (a la Kerry 2009). If the draw in Connacht ends up with another repeat in 2019 then Galway, as a side with the nuts and bolts to win an AI, will have to make hard choices - as only the Dubs have the resources and logistics to be able to sustain a full season plateau.

Best of luck to Leitrim in the draw tomorrow.
