Very glad to hear thet Leo is calling for the planning authorities to look for an alternative site which would save Na Fianna and the surrounding amenities jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20587 - 01/05/2018 22:15:31 2096118 Link 1 |
The whole process seems poorly handled and lacking in consultation, it's not just Na Fianna I think the whole community has concerns and seems this was just landed on the area without prior warning. Hopefully a middle ground or an accommodation can be found as I think everyone agrees it would be a fantastic piece of infrastructure for the city. Is there a viable alternative or will it eventually have to go here?

I agree completely with what he is doing and it just explains what type of planners we have in this country to even suggest such a route. However its a pity that he does not do the same for that piece of outdated infrastructure that EirGrid proposes to run through Cavan , Monaghan and Meath without any concern for the numerous families of the area-but then again they underground the same infrastructure when it goes thru Dublin. And we pay for these morons who make such decisions, thru our tax system browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2340 - 02/05/2018 01:13:30 2096160 Link 2 |
Must be terrible for Planners in the Capital at the minute. TribalThing (Galway) - Posts: 74 - 02/05/2018 08:34:18 2096166 Link 1 |
As far as I'm aware there are alternative sites/plans It'll come down to €€€ and that's why the current site was picked They had two days notice.. I'm not a Na Fianna club member and if I'm honest I enjoyed beating them but I admire the work being done there by their volunteers on the ground. It's impressive to see so many kids walking around carrying hurls in the area and taking part in both codes. It's a club really going places and producing excellent talent. I just think the planners didn't have a breeze how valuable the club was to thousands of people in the area and it's a club that carries a bit of weight. I'm all for the Metro but jaysus that was some poor stuff from the get go! The future of Na Fianna is still up in the air but it does show a a certain ignorance to GAA sports in general for this to have happened. jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20587 - 02/05/2018 11:24:14 2096205 Link 1 |

Far from it, I am just around long enough to see how politicians love to be the hero. Outrage by everything? Life is too short..... I don't think the above is over analysing things at all! :) Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 03/05/2018 08:31:57 2096343 Link 0 |
I have no affiliation towards FG what so ever, for as long back as I can remember my family has been heavily involved with FF in Galway but I am more so about the country and not a political party. What is happening with the metro link is a great thing for Dublin it will benefit hundreds of thousands of people it will create massive employment in construction even after its completed, everything worth while doing is never straight forward and there is and will always be stumbling blocks along the way and it will be a mess until its completed just like the luas so leave your little snipes at the door about politicians love to be hero and give a bif of credit for what is been done in the first place Galwayjoe86 (Galway) - Posts: 258 - 03/05/2018 12:18:57 2096397 Link 0 |
It's a shame that Leo had no such second thoughts when it came to cutting off EU infrastructural funding for the West for Ireland during his spell as Minister for Transport. Guess that project wasn't in his own back yard... Gleebo (Mayo) - Posts: 2208 - 03/05/2018 13:21:10 2096409 Link 0 |
Jesus lad will ya chill out..... There is also plenty of debate about the cost/benefit of the Metro by the way! Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 03/05/2018 15:01:59 2096444 Link 0 |
The issue for Na Fianna, for the three schools (2 second level and 1 primary) and 1 pre-school and for Home Farm soccer club is catastrophic. You are effectively seriously affecting best part of 4/5000 people in one tiny area. The planners have admitted they were unaware there was schools on that site all they saw on a map was greenfields, if thats the level of planning it won't go anywhere. Also in the Mater hospital extension there was subway station already built with a bit of foresight before the crash, but are they using this station? no. So as a member of the club I couldn;t give a damn who is power - I don't want it built and guess what - it won't be.

No need for the metro..an over ground option would be fine. Most Dublin buses are half full coming in from the airport at the moment but I do recognise the need for a rail link in the long term. The Luas is rubbish...something you'd get your kids for Christmas. PeggyShippen (Limerick) - Posts: 300 - 03/05/2018 17:57:43 2096481 Link 0 |
