Agreed, way too much being made of the Dublin game last year- a gleeful media have created their own narrative around this Tyrone team on the back of that result. From a Monaghan point of view, you can't fault our lads' honesty of effort; it fuels the die-hard support with a sort of misplaced tragic hope (Mayo and Deise hurling supporters know the feeling). The quality of panel assembled by MOR is fantastic given resources available but Tyrone don't worry about relatives- absolutes is their business. I really think Tyrone are out to prove something this year and Monaghan may be on the receiving end today, by a lot more than what the papers think too. Anyway, to Omagh, in hope. What a pity you are not in exile somewhere there is no internet and we would not have to listen to this negative rubbish. When we win you will probably be the first person looking on to the field to clap the players on the back.

Eddie, you're one of the most negative monaghan posters I've seen around this fixture. I'm not saying we're definitely going to win, but there's no reason to believe we can't go to Tyrone and get a result. Tyrone obviously have the better head to head record, but when you compare the two teams on paper then I dont see much of a difference. This isn't the Tyrone team of 10 years ago, they've dominated Ulster the last couple of years but they wouldn't send fear through your team like those great Tyrone teams of the 00s might. I may be made eat my words by this evening, but it doesn't change the fact that we should be confident in our ability to get a win here. patk (Monaghan) - Posts: 936 - 20/05/2018 11:12:26 2102251 Link 1 |
Very difficult to pick a winner from this game, could we have a draw? I can't see more than a couple of points between the teams at the end. They both play a similar type of game with lots of bodies back, trying to force turnovers and break at speed. It might not be a free flowing scorefest but still think it will be a great game and I am really looking for to seeing the deferred coverage on BBC, shocking this game isn't live. Maybe underrated was the wrong word mate, i think their profile and credentials as All Ireland contenders went off a cliff after last year. They are a better team then the performance in the semi final and the team probably has most of best players in Ireland after Dublin. Monaghan will give anyone a game and what they do with their resources is incredible, pound for pound they are probably the best team in Ireland, they need to prove they are a team for the big occasion and big games though. I do however feel there is an All Ireland in that Tyrone panel and think it will be a year of progress for them especially after finding "that forward" potentially in Lee Brennan, what that will mean in terms of winning or getting to an All Ireland final is there to be proven. I suppose ive heard plenty about Dublin, Mayo, Galway and Kerry as contenders less so about Tyrone, is kind of what i meant. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4441 - 20/05/2018 12:20:52 2102264 Link 0 |
Hopefully a decent game of football, another borefest like C'bar last week & I will lose the will to watch any more Gaelic football. Looking forward to both hurling games, the only excitement left in Gaa. moc.dna (Galway) - Posts: 1212 - 20/05/2018 12:37:16 2102266 Link 0 |
Can't beat championship days!!!! Tyrone have started games very poorly this year, Galway 5 down, Kildare 4 down, Monaghan 4 down all within the first 5-10 mins which can't happen today. The_Fridge (Tyrone) - Posts: 2087 - 20/05/2018 14:06:45 2102279 Link 0 |
Goalkeepers and kick out strategy could be very important today, think we have the advantage here. mhunicean_abu (Monaghan) - Posts: 1042 - 20/05/2018 14:29:10 2102287 Link 0 |
Mickey Harte should have walked away 5 years ago. Tyrone have gone back a long way and they drastically need a change of management and direction. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9688 - 20/05/2018 18:13:14 2102330 Link 0 |
I had a feeling it be Monaghan day. Well done. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 20/05/2018 18:14:19 2102331 Link 1 |
I think if this Monaghan side can stay injury free they're gonna be a real handful, If they were playing an All-Ireland semi against Galway or Mayo tomorrow I'd fancy them, I think they'd beat Kerry too. realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8571 - 20/05/2018 18:19:16 2102333 Link 0 |
Well done Monaghan. Great team effort. Can be a match for any team if they keep bringing performances like that. seanie_boy (Tyrone) - Posts: 4235 - 20/05/2018 18:28:55 2102336 Link 0 |
Well done to Monaghan - thought the Tyrone injuries would represent a great chance for maonghan to get one over the red hands. However I do think Mickey Harte is a total liability to the red hands now. He has no Plan B - considering the hammering he took from dubs last year you'd think they'd work on that. Also playing 3 players who were still clearly not match ready shows his decision making it totally flawed. I know some red Hand fans will not like what I'm saying but the truth hurts - if you want to progress you need to get rid - he takes on Oneill in second half and takes him off again - what's that about? Congratulations to Monaghan, great away result, hands up, got the prediction for this one completely wrong. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4441 - 20/05/2018 18:48:48 2102347 Link 0 |
A great win for us. Well deserved. Tyrone going badly at the moment. I think Harte needs to step back and take a long look and given what Sean Cavanagh has revealed he needs to let the likes of Stephen o Neill have a bigger role. Statistics today prove this. For monaghan it proves things are going good. border Gael (Monaghan) - Posts: 893 - 20/05/2018 18:59:40 2102351 Link 0 |

Also Tyrone's tackling inside their 45 was poor and rash. Everyone knows Beggan and McManus will nail everything. The_Fridge (Tyrone) - Posts: 2087 - 20/05/2018 19:06:18 2102355 Link 0 |
Well done Monaghan. Some of your posters were critical of our win in Castlebar last weekend but ultimately a win is a win and away from home. Always thought ye had a decent side now time to push on. After first couple of games, still the most competitive province. And that's about the only positive I can take from today's result. Monaghan never looked like losing after first five mins of second half. Monaghan know how to slow a game down whenever we looked like getting a it of momentum, but sure that's what you had to do. Hungrier team too. Tyrone going nowhere. essmac (Tyrone) - Posts: 1141 - 20/05/2018 19:23:20 2102360 Link 0 |
