Replying To yew_tree:  "Be June I reckon...but you believe the mass hysteria outside Mayo we will prob be out of the championship by then"
Was that what Cillian had a few years back that needed the operation to clear up. Leroy is an awful loss but if we get everyone else fit in the next couple of weeks we'll be there come June and beyond. At least he will be able train as long as it's non contact so a fit Lee would be a major boost at the business end. Fingers crossed and all that.

If this team lines out against Galway all fit;

1. Clarke
2. Harrison
3. Barrett
4. Higgins
5. Boyle
6. Keegan
7. Durkan
8. Parsons
9. Vaughan
10. Doherty
11. A O Shea
12. D O Conor
13. Doherty
14. Moran
15. C O Conor

I guarantee they will win.

No guarantee especially against a side that Mayo have lost their last two championship games too. Those players in bold are either injured or a long way off the required level of fitness and May 13th is that far away...

Cillian dislocated the same collar
Bone twice hence the op was then needed. Player health is above anything in my book...hope the lads recover well.

the public want some decent analysis not mundane mind numbing soundbites and complete nonsense..flynn has absolutely no credibility as a so called pundit...remember his ludicrous comments about aiden o'shea signing autographs for children...this man has nothing to offer in terms of critical analysis

Replying To WanPintWin:  "100%. This Mayo team deserve a huge amount of admiration for how they've kept coming back, despite all of the blows they've received. Lesser teams would've folded. I have massive admiration for what they've achieved over the last 6 years.
It remains to be seen how they perform this year, but if past championships are anything to go by, they won't be put away easily.
Whoever loses on May 13th will have a very long road ahead, but I wouldn't be writing off Mayo if it's them."
100% agreed. I have nothing but massive respect for those Mayo players. Some very good players & tremendous characters. For the life of me I can't understand the stick they get. They might not ever get over the line in terms of winning an All Ireland but I for one will always remember them as a great side.

Why do pundits keep saying the same thing every year about Mayo in the league when they don't win with their best team? Surely they've shown us all time after time never to write them off come championship."
using "if" and "guarantee" is not much of prediction. Mayo will be hard to bate in May for sure.

In fairness if I was a sport journalist/pundit/waffler and needed 500 words for my editor by tomorrow, I can always fall back on writing about Mayo. Just dust off an article I or someone else wrote a few years ago, change a few names and teams and hey presto: instant "End of the line for this Mayo team" or "Early signs this could finally be Mayo's year" article, and money in the bank.

They've a strange existence in that you can call them crap and very few people want to defend them, but call them very good and nobody can realistically argue considering they've reliably been 2nd best in Ireland over the last few years.

Flynn was top drawer on the field but a poor pundit.
Keegan is a huge loss, I wouldn't enjoy beating Mayo as much if he wasn't playing.

Mayo are an easy target for fellas like Flynn. Dublin were fodder for years in the Noughties and plenty of pundits couldn't wait to trot out the same old waffle.
As long as you're loosing big games they will always have you to fall back on for an easy column or to sight as an example.
Thankfully now it's most people waiting for us to be beaten and long may it continue.

I'm resigned to the fact we will be an object of mockery until we land Sam. That said we have a lot more to shout about than the vast majority of counties.

We have played in a THIRD of all senior football finals since 1989 and lost them all...I am not sure there is another team in world sport with that kind of record?

As you say the Mayo story fills column inches and is fancinating for many.

Anyone who mocks Mayo and what they have done over the years knows feck all about football. They are a model of consistency, just as much as Dublin are because both take different routes but end up in an All Ireland final to fight it out and they have put up a hell of a fight on each occasion. Fair enough they didn't win one but they have a lot to be rightly proud of.

I certainly don't consider Mayo an object of mockery. They are a fine side that probably should have at least one if not two All Ireland championships. They are most unfortunate that their team is around while this Dublin side are at their peak. Keegan, Boyle, Higgins and Moran are all fantastic talents that any county would gladly have.

That finals record is extraordinary. One team in sports that must come close is the Buffalo Bills who made four consecutive Super Bowls in the 90s and lost all of them. In both cases it's a huge achievement to get that far, but it's cold comfort to the fans and players who endure such disappointment.
