I couldn't agree more, too many Galway players are still living off the memories of last year, and you would not be overly confident of them beating any of the top sides at this moment in time. Fair play to Limerick, they are definitely a coming tea, however time for some or all of the Galway players to put the medals away in the drawer, and start playing like All Ireland champions.

Do they not keep them in their back pockets in Galway? m_the_d (None) - Posts: 1099 - 12/03/2018 18:11:22 2084047 Link 0 |
Cop on Gilly, teams that sate ravenous appetites for championships in any sport worldwide, don't typically come out in business as usual mode a year later. Of the last 47 hurling titles (since Tipp 'famine' '71), only 13 sides have retained their title, and Cody's cats did 6 of those, other cats did 3, Cork did 3, and Galway did it once. Outside of KK and Cork, all-ireland hurling title retention has been almost unheard of in the last half a century. History ain't on our side this season. So, cool the jets, we might start playing when we're fit enough for starters, and when we get our full squad back, and we might not too.

I thought Galway were fantastic in the first half with controlled passing and excellent point taking. However, when the game became more physical many of their players did not want to know. The Touhy incident was nasty as was the head-high strike on David Burke (I think it was Burke). Some of the Galway players did not seem fit enough to last 70 odd minutes. Well done Limerick. neverright (Roscommon) - Posts: 1648 - 12/03/2018 20:50:07 2084091 Link 0 |
That's a good post and if I were a Galway man I wouldn't be getting too upset either plenty of hurling down the line, from a limerick perspective we're just glad we're back being even mentioned in the hurling scene again. One thing pope we were missing as many first teamers as Galway were. To the Galway supporters on here I think great credit is due to most for the graciousness in defeat.

Shouldn't you have 21 exclamation marks at the end though? Give us break now, we only won it last year, and have celebrated it well. Come back to us in 2039 if you like, if we're still presenting 'unfit' for 'pivotal?' NHL games.
