What is the format for the Quarter-finals of this year's National Hurling League? ah_free_out_ref (Galway) - Posts: 16 - 04/03/2018 18:24:09 2081832 Link 0 |
As far as I know the quarter final venues will be determined by a coin toss again.

Well now structuring a competition in a way that somewhat resembles whats right is a big challenge for the GAA Its likely Dublin could be in a quarter final after beating Antrim and Laois, while Cork miss out after beating Cork and Tipp Sure you couldn't make it up if you tried Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1410 - 05/03/2018 13:34:09 2081918 Link 1 |
Agreed. The league structure needs a serious overhaul. The relegation play-offs for instance you could have a team with zero points staying up ahead of a team who has four points eg. Cork and Galway in 2016.

Pinkie That is dead right. Just wait until Cork are relegated and that will be changed. Oldtourman (Limerick) - Posts: 4285 - 06/03/2018 13:50:17 2082196 Link 1 |
Oldtourman,that happened last time when cork were being relegated,and they got the structure changed! perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3929 - 06/03/2018 14:19:46 2082211 Link 0 |
A silly remark. Cork were relegated a few seasons ago and many - like you - predicted that the league structure would change to accommodate them. It didn't happen, of course and there was no reason why it should.

You'll have to refresh my memory on that one, Perfect10. When did that happen?

Well for a start they got beat in every game in one campaign a few years back but then availed off= a play off to beat Galway and stayed up. If you cannot win a single group game in a particular season you do not deserve to be up. Limerick won promotion on the field of play and the rules were changed afterwards and they remained in Division 1B. An absolute load of codswallop, yet their manager, Donal O'Grady, said it was the right place for us. I wonder if his own county were treated the same way would he have reacted as he did. Well I doubt it and as far as Frank Murphy was concerned he would have risen blue murder.

To be fair, there was allot of noise of league re-structuring when Cork got relegated in 2013 - but nothing happened Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1410 - 06/03/2018 17:30:12 2082264 Link 0 |
It is not Cork's fault that the two bottom teams play off for relegation. Those are the rules, with which I don't agree, either, but the rules were not made by Cork. Maybe Cork should have thrown the relegation playoff against Galway just to satisfy people like you? The year Cork were down in Division 1B with Limerick, Limerick drew in Pairc Ui Chaoimh and gave themselves a great chance of going up on points difference, as they proceeded to trounce Antrim by 25 points while cork only beat them by while Cork only beat them by six. But Cork won all the rest of their matches while Limerick only drew with Offaly. Cork's fault, as well, I suppose. Midleton (Cork) - Posts: 643 - 06/03/2018 19:32:06 2082297 Link 0 |
