A fantastic competitive match between two great sides yesterday. It's a bit of a reach to say another medium sized club won't win an All Ireland based on the last 3 years only. Cuala and NaP have very strong teams at the moment, but both are beatable. Regardless of club size, it's extremely difficult to keep that level of dominance going. Smaller clubs like Portumna, Ballyhale and Birr have dominated for periods also. While clubs like Cuala and NaP will always likely be strong due to depth of panel, generations of good players will always come along in other clubs. The likes of Clarinbridge, Loughgiel and Thomas's have all won relatively recently, when they would have been long outsiders at the start of the season. I take your point on how hard it is to dominate at club level outside the county. Na Piarsaigh are going for their 7th under 21 in a row in Limerick. And the limerick under 21 scene has some very strong clubs! It's not healthy over all though to have one superclub with a pick of about 35,000 in 5 or 6 parishs. Both Cuala and Na Piarsaigh are in that situation. PeggyShippen (Limerick) - Posts: 300 - 25/03/2018 13:51:03 2087664 Link 0 |
Not my team Danny but yes of course they're a limerick team and am v disappointed they lost i think cuala deserved it on the day in fairness a point down with a min to go and get the last 4 scores deserves great credit I don't feel hard done I do feel the ref over both days favoured cuala and especially the first game but nap didn't close it out when it was effectly all over no one to blame but themselves plus their tactics yesterday made some of cualas best players look super human as nap were outnumbered in the half forward line also the injury to Casey was huge. Above are some reasons I reckon nap were beaten but fair play to cuala some achievement to win back to back and if I'm to be honest they looked way fitter as well. Dublin need to get some of these lads on to the Dublin team quick someday (Limerick) - Posts: 1104 - 25/03/2018 20:07:54 2087906 Link 0 |
Two brilliant teams. Pity there had to be a loser. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 25/03/2018 23:21:26 2088043 Link 0 |
But really how many of those 35,000s actually support either team. If NAP has the strong support of those 35,000 it was not evident yesterday.

Well in fairness most commentators, including The Sunday Game said some of the Cuala frees were 'controversial'

I counted 11 steps by Dowling before he passed for the NAP Goal.

Point taken, but was he being dragged back?

I have just reviewed the incident concerned three times on GAA Beo. He MAY have carried the ball five steps at most- there is no way he went 11 steps with it.

If I was to guess I would say the number of members Na Piarsaigh have is one of the smallest of all senior clubs in Limerick. Any match I've been to in the county championship their support is always outnumbered. I would say 80% of the crowd they had on Saturday won't be there when they come play Doon in a few weeks. mike03 (Limerick) - Posts: 2000 - 27/03/2018 07:22:52 2088574 Link 0 |
He caught the ball facing his own goal, turned towards the Cuala goal, did a shimmy, ran some more and passed it. He would be some man for one man to do all that in 5 steps. But it wasn't 5. It was 11. Re being dragged back. No he wasn't. Have a look on a big screen. I recorded it on TG4 and just looked again. BTW it is Dowling number 8 I am talking about, not the scorer. shaneShankill (Dublin) - Posts: 42 - 27/03/2018 10:41:57 2088619 Link 1 |
I know Shane Dowling and there was simply no way he took eleven steps or anything like it, or would that referee have allowed it as he showed when blowing up Downes in the first for a lot less that that.
