Louth v Down

(Oldest Posts First)

Since everyone is doing it I am gonna jump on the band wagon. Louth v Down. Two neighboring counties (even though you cant drive from Louth straight to Down without going through another county which is Armagh. The Carlingford Lough divides these two counties). Pete Mc Grath in his first season with the Wee County welcomes his native county to Drogheda tomorrow week. Pete won All Ireland's as manger with Down in 1991 and 1994. It should be a cracker. Louth and Down have never met in the Championship.

I can see the wee men getting their noses in front in this one. But should be a good game.

Should be a good decent Game. In the past 2 to 3 years I think that Louth have been one of the teams that have got better year after year. They have a decent enough defence with a few talented forwards, there mid-field can be a bit risky at times. Down improved last year but they weren't good enough. I think that Pete McGrath will be a great addition for Louth and I'm going for a Louth win here.
Louth 2+

Oakleafersir talking about midfield with the Wee County wee have to talk about the great Paddy Keenan. What a player and such a gentleman. One of the best players in the last thirty years to wear the red jersey of Louth. He became the first Louth player in 2010 to win an All Star. He was captain of Louth in that infamous 2010 Leinster final. One of my fav Wee County players of all time.

Think Louth are punching above their weight in this dv, so they will have to be the fittest team in the league to stand a chance. Down improved a lot from last year and they should win this.

The Pete McGrath derby - I can see Down squeezing this one by 1 or 2 points.

Ollie, Paddy Keenan is the best player bar none to have worn the Louth jersey in the last thirty years .

Tight division. I know little about an Lú but I am saying an Dún by 2 points, and get the season off to a good start

Division 2 looks very competitive and Clare/Cavan, Roscommon/Meath and Louth/Down are all hard to call. What might swing it Louth's way against Down is the manager. Pete McGrath is a great manager from schools football, minor and senior with Down, railway cup and even with his last job with in Fermanagh against the odds he had some great moments in 2016.

Think Meath are punching above their weight here too, remember they have hovered above relegation for several years now apart from a couple of flukey wins last year that pulled them them to safety...should be a cracker when we host you in Drogheda ...
