They could have sat at home & watched it on TV but they didn't, they got up off their arses, bought tickets & supported their county. Others could take note.

Hurling
Clare Galway 44,246

Football
Dublin Roscommon 33,240 (boosted by u20 final between Kildare and Mayo curtain raiser)
Galway Monaghan 15,200
Kerry Kildare 17,935
Donegal Tyrone 16,242

Surprised Galway v Monaghan didn't attract a bigger crowd, Galway going so well, at home with a chance to go through undefeated and avoid a semi final with the Dubs. Then Monaghan after a great performance against Kerry and being a very well supported team in general. Thought that would be close to a sell out. The hurling replay probably hit crowd a bit.

The combined crowds from the Football Semi Finals were it seems the third-lowest in the last 10 years. Apparently the GAA are baffled as to why this is, so here are my suggestions as to how to improve it, and in order of importance...

Divide Dublin in 2... As it is the population of Dublin is 1.3 Million and exceeds the population of Munster, or Connacht, or Leinster excluding Dublin, or Ulster excluding Unionists who tend not to play GAA.

Back pass to Goalkeeper results in a free in... This should help stop the keep ball at end of games and is simple.

Stop clock... 3rd official add time for any delays and so there is no advantage in a winning team delaying.

Get rid of the Black Card. Red Card for stopping a certain goal chance.

You can only score from frees if taken off the ground.

2 week gap before the Semi Finals... gives some build up.

Only play matches in Croke Park if attendance likely to exceed 70,000. Anything else in Croke Park looks empty.

I think this is a load of fuss about nothing. Galway never bring the biggest football following. I'd estimate they brought about 10k last Sunday. I would argue that was a decent crowd when you look at the circumstances - they weren't given a hope, they had just been walloped the previous week by Monaghan, they have a hurling final next week and finally Galway had already played 14 championship matches this summer (6 football and 8 hurling). Most supporters and going to chose their trip to Dublin and the All Ireland hurling final is going to be the choice of most.

Remember back in 2008 before there was half this complaining about football Cork and Kerry brought 35k to a semi final and a smaller crowd again to the replay! Cork were Munster champions at the time and both teams have a very realistic prospect of winning the All Ireland.

49,696 is a massive crowd for Tyrone vs Monaghan given their populations and the political divide in Tyrone. There was 40k+ Dubs at their semi final. I fail to see this crisis.

I think these are incredible crowds given that every pundit is telling us this gaelic football is awful stuff and that we should bask in the glory of our hurlers and rugby players!

Embarrassing for the GAA if gate receipts from football are down on previous year considering all the additional games this year with the super 8s.

Refs having poor games is a factor that is turning people away from attending games, certainly to some degree. We have seen too many big games go the wrong way due to wrong decisions. Mayo were on the right side of such a decision in the NFL game v Donegal with McLouglin and the 13 steps. We were of course on the wrong side V Kerry in Limerick when our team was probably at its best. The Louth-Meath Leinster final, and most recently the Semi Final Monaghan V Tyrone. Is it just me but in several games, most of which the outcome means little to me, from the first 10 minutes It seems one team is being awarded frees for very, very little, while the other get no free for much more blatent infringments.

Having matches on a Saturday effects crowds alot. A lot of people are working or in my own neck of the woods part time farming. Plus playing games late on a Saturday evening when you have the poor public transport system that closes down outside dublin at 6 or 7 on a Saturday is daft. Plus the extreme negativty of the national media does not help at all.

Yeah, that was us against Dublin last Saturday. The ref acted like Dean Rocks bodyguard, yet Damien Comer was repeatedly fouled without a free. The most obvious one was the outrageous third man tackle by Philly that saw Comer fall against Niall Scully with a free out given, when it was a stonewall free in. A truly outrageous decision Stevie Wonder could have seen and got right. I'm not saying we would have won, but it was annoying to see Dublin get extra help they don't need. It would have made the game a contest for longer.

Ye were badly done in last years final when Dermo ran into Barrett, who simply stood his ground and gave a non existent foul against him which won the game. Refs do get starblinded.

That's funny because you were saying the exact opposite several times in the run up to the game, funnily enough, now one of the reasons you lost is conveniently help from the ref. You're a gas man altogether.
