People never seem to have a problem with the league matches on PPV (eir sport), but when sky got a small portion of games in there tv deal to show championship matches everyone flipped, going back to the point, Counties more powerful then Riscommon have tabled this motion and they failed, if they really wanted to show how against it they are I think counties should pull out of championship if they really want the gaa to listen PyatPree (Cork) - Posts: 376 - 14/12/2017 19:22:37 2065197 Link

I don't like the idea of any sport being on PPV, especially amateur sport. The difference between sky and eir sport though is Eir sport brought a new service that was not being provided before. Sky bought one that was already on free to air tv. Sky and murdoch are not a nice company and I do not like the idea of them getting their hands on our games. Saorview isn't 'Saor' though. We have to pay for a licence where most of the money goes to RTE and most of that to RTE TV. They're out crying again looking for a licence fee increase and they're already government subsidised. We, at least, should have some say, based on our viewing preferences, channels, sports, how the licence fee should be spread around. There doesn't seem to be a shortage of cash on the Sunday Game. Between presenters and analysts some nights it seems there's about 10 and they're getting a nice few quid for it. And their football coverage mostly ignores Division 3 and 4 counties in League and Championship. No doubt they'll cash in on Super 8. I got the NOWTV option for the Cork game last summer for a tenner as I couldn't rely on coverage from other sources. As someone said the Sky analysis and commentary isn't the best but RTE aren't great all the time. I had Sky Sports for 24 hours for that. Paying for a Sky package just for GAA seems a crazy thing to have to do but plenty of people still don't have proper broadband. They should have a pay-as-you-go Sky pass where you pay for a few hours around the match and if you get a 2nd or subsequent games at a cheaper price.
