Even it was in need of work 20 years ago Tuam Stadium was the best Gaelic football venue in Connacht. Not so much the grounds but it being in the middle of Tuam made for a very special match day atmosphere. Arguably one of the best championship matchdays in the country. With the folklore of Tuam Stars and Jarlaths it was miles ahead of Salthill in terms of GAA heritage. Salthill is afine stadium but ultimately it's a pitch in a posh housing estate, miles from town, with little or no match day atmosphere. Hopefully someday they'll revamp Tuam Stadium and bring the magic back.

well was that retaliation in the FBD fiasco? the game could have been called off much earlier, interesting suckvalleypaddy (Galway) - Posts: 1662 - 08/01/2018 10:35:37 2067294 Link 1 |
They could have but then you would have people complaining if the pitch was playable at 2.

Aye what was the craic there or what time was it actually called off? I was passing through Castlebar just after 14:30 and noticed McHale Park had empty stands though there were a few milling around and there was a load of traffic. Got the wife to check Live Tracker and she said it was OFF but we guessed it must have been quite late in the day given the traffic etc.

To let people in and decide at 2:05 to call off the game was nothing short of disgusting. And to insult people by giving them a ticket for the re-fixture was disgraceful. Not everyone can make it to the next game. At 1PM it could have been called off and not let people pay in. Absolute greed. Chops (Westmeath) - Posts: 775 - 08/01/2018 12:13:13 2067324 Link 1 |

Connacht councils gig yesterday not Mayo Co Boatd. Don't know why it was left so late. No refunds caused a lot of anger but sure nobody died and there is a refund available now. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11219 - 08/01/2018 13:31:21 2067340 Link 0 |
Well it's not greed anyway. Incompetence maybe. Money had already been transported to the ATM so impossible for them to give a refund to people. If the pitch was unplayable at 11am it should have been called off then. This thing of waiting until throw-in to call it off is absolutely ridiculous. It shows NO regard for spectators or for the players and has cost both county boards several thousand euro --- and all for a competition that needs to be erased from the calendar.
