If county games were scheduled at the same time as club games affecting Slaughtneil there'd only be one winner (and it wouldn't be the county team)!!!

All great in theory hill but many clubs have more than "one of two" county players. We have six & without them we might as well fold the tent as regards being competitive. Besides which it would never happen that way. If the players were forced to make that choice they would leave the county panel & stick with their clubmates & neighbours, the people they have grown up with & played with since they were four years old. I don't think many of the Mayo footballers would pick their club over their county. most of these guys are focused on county success for the majority of the year with the club scene only bothering them when Mayo have been eliminated from the championship - which has been late September in recent years

Castlebar only have a few county players (only one of which is a nailed-on starter for Mayo) so they'd probably be fine.

Mayo may well be a bit of an exception with All Ireland success something of an obsession for this group of players. Neither am I suggesting that all Donegal players would have the same outlook, but the Kilcar team have enjoyed success this year & would see themselves as kicking on wheras success with Donegal looks to be a fair bit off at the moment. I just think that scheduling championship games at the same time as county games is a non starter if the players are going to be asked to pick between the two. Interesting the three best club sides in Connacht; Corofin,Brigids,Castlebar have few county starters between them.

Once again Morefield & St Lomans have shown us that there is thriving GAA life outside county football. MuckrossHead (Donegal) - Posts: 5028 - 18/12/2017 08:38:38 2065489 Link 8 |
What struck me yesterday was the din of the crowd, it never let up for the entire second half and very clear that everyone present was in the grip of this game. Every score from each side greeted with raucous roars - a sign of a great game. Well done to both sides. facethepuckout (Roscommon) - Posts: 214 - 18/12/2017 19:53:27 2065549 Link 0 |
The club game has always been this good - it is just that the county game now rotten to the core. Roger (Meath) - Posts: 470 - 18/12/2017 22:00:09 2065552 Link 0 |
