Replying To bud14:  "If mayo get through too the super 8s can they be in galways group does anybody know."
Yes Connacht champions will be in with Munster Champions and two other teams in that group will be qualifiers - one of which could be Mayo

Replying To supersub15:  "Who in their wisdom would introduce a "Super 8" facility to a system that is already flawed or in need of re alignment, as far as I can see the Super 8 is another psychological pressure that the less successful counties have to contend with, along with that the word Elite is more and more being loosely used, I read where Kevin Mc Stay said if Roscommon were to beat Galway in the Connaught final they would be the first county to enter into the Super 8 and be one of the Elite, so who is the elite, who do they represent, what is the cut off point of entry, what is the drop out point, do the elite have bragging rights over the rest, do the Super 8 and the Elite work hand in hand, or are they same thing.?? If the super 8 thing fails it will take another few years to implement a replacement if anyone has the appetite for it, if it's a success it will sent the already successful counties light years ahead of the also ran's. Super 8 and Elite two words that don't fit with an amateur sport / organisation, ie, gaelic games."
What we need is more super 8's, a super 8 in every province (move Dublin into Connacht to give them more competitive games) before getting to a national super 8.

- National league to revert back to a October/November start (with a Christmas break) and finish in March/April
- Provincial super 8's could then begin in April/May
- National super 8's to begin in July August
- One big concert to take place AFTER each national super 8 game
- All Ireland final in September
- Back into the league then again

This was the GAA HQ can maximise revenue providing intercounty players with consistent games. Get rib of the club scene altogether as it doesn't provide the financial income that the intercounty scene does.

Yes hey can. If in the last round of qualifiers they get drawn against the losing Ulster or Leinster Finalists. If they win that game they are in Galways group (Connaught / Munster champions group)

If they draw the losing Connaught or Munster finalists, they will be in the other group (Ulster and Leinster champions)

Its only qualifiers they try to keep teams apart that played already in Provence"
Come on....It's Connacht not Connaught..I usually let it slide but your a Connacht man.

Replying To maroondiesel:  "The 4 in a row will be well deserved if the Dubs can pull it off this year, serious competition out there. Mayo should make final again as Rochford is the best manager, thinks on his feet."
Rochford better than Gavin? I disagree. Every team in the country has tried to devise plans to out manoeuvre Dublin and none have been successful. Rochford has had a few chances himself and come up short.

When you see the way Dublin have adapted a style of play to beat the blanket defences, when you study their movement/game management/ and incorporation of other sports, namely Basketball. The use of essentially setting screens to create space whereby a player runs across the path of another mans marker to create separation. The use of Kilkenny as the point guard who runs the attack. The incorporation of both zonal and man to man marking defensively.

The numbers (and Sam's) don't lie.

Im insulted you even had to ask! Just pointing out that the top end of GAA HQ seem to have lost the run of themselves.

Not too sure what is behind the Super 8,s but this weekends backdoor with fixtures which rarely occur in the championship such as Waterford v Monaghan, Carlow v Tyrone, Sligo v Antrim and Tipp v Mayo seem to catching the interest and will see good crowds in tight venues. Do we need more of these. I'm certainly looking forward to travelling to Carlow where a good atmosphere is promised.

Couldn't agree more with this. As a Cork fan there's little variety beyond Killarney, Thurles and Croke Park each year. Would gladly welcome a day out in Carlow for example, but with the current system in place these novelty trips tend to be few and far between for a lot of fans.

The Super 8 could be the Super 4 next year as the gap widens, the format introduced by Duffy has made the whole game even more elitist. The GAA will die a death in counties where there is no exposure & counties don't make the Super 8's, TV companies love it & that was the whole point of it, TV rights & the cash flow from same.

Since you're saying that the Gaelic spelling for the province is the only valid usage I presume for consistency sake you would also assert that we should use "Uladh" instead of Ulster, "Mumhan" instead of Munster, and "Laighean" instead of Leinster?
Mind you, as a Connaught man myself I am more inclined to use "Connacht"!

The correct spelling is Connaught, it the D4 mob that decided to use the lazy mans spelling of Connacht. If the draw favours the big teams we could have an interesting super 8, Kerry and Galway in 1 group, Donegal and Dublin in the other and Tyrone, Monaghan, Mayo and Cavan/ Roscommon/ Cork in the mix, if we get a horrible draw with the big teams meeting in round 3 of the qualifiers then it could be whipping boys show where we get 3 strong teams and 1 weak team in the super 8s in each group where the weak team is hammered in every game

The correct spelling in English is Connaught.

I, for one, take pride in the fact that ours is the only province still commonly spelt in its original and correct form. Is ceart agus cóir é.

Why not? Makes more sense than using made up words created by people who couldn't get their heads around a different language than their own.

Because of the furore over the round 3 fixtures it may have gone unnoticed that the format for the super 8s has been set out on Monday last.

Kerry and Galway group have the winners of the Fermanagh and Laois Round 4 qualifiers. If Armagh and Monaghan get through to round 4 they cannot then meet Fermanagh, there for it is likely that one of Tyrone/Cavan or Mayo/Kildare go in this group as they would then be the only teams to that can play Fermanagh in Round 4.

Dublin and Donegal have the winners of the Roscommon and Cork Round 4 qualifiers

It seems that first up are all the neutral venue games which are fixed for the weekend 14-15 of July, probable two double headers at headquarters to include Dublin v Donegal and Kerry v Galway. The provincial winners are away the following week to the 4 qualifiers and at home the last week.

Should Donegal and Galway (for example) lose the first game they would then have to pick themselves up for a must win game away 7 days later.

Does all this not give the advantage to two qualifiers to make the Semi's

If they split the fixtures, it looks like 4 teams' games will clash directly or indirectly with the World Cup Final. Good luck to the GAA picking who those 4 teams will be.
