Fermanagh manager Ryan McMenamin has described playing games in December as ‘madness’.

McMenamin oversaw his charges facing Down in the McKenna Cup on December 29th in a game that the Mourne men won comfortably.

Much has been made of the scheduling of some games and the former Tyrone defender feels that playing in December doesn’t help preparations for the start of the league.

“I had a good chat with Paddy (Tally, Down manager) before the game and we were saying it is madness, out playing football on December 29th,” McMenamin told the Fermamagh Herald.

“All the teams have to hit a peak in the league and we have another four or five weeks to go to get more miles in the legs. Our focus is on the first round in Kildare and that is where it will remain.”
