Castleknock Club Notes

April 06, 2020

Community spirit is what it’s all about at the moment so many thanks to Castleknock club members Kevin Broderick and Liam O’Flannagain for leading the way in providing PPE supplies to Temple Street Children’s Hospital and to Michael Wylie for ensuring that our excess supplies of liquid soap went to Coolmine Therapeutic Community.

Even without Tir na nÓg being available our GPO Maria Bergin has come up with a really innovative idea to keep the Nursery going. She has begun hosting virtual Nursery sessions so our younger players can watch her on Zoom to see how to maintain their fitness and suppleness without leaving their homes.

Our Senior Footballer James Sherry at Somerton Physiotherapy Clinic has come up with an equally novel idea. He is offering alternatives for teams who wish to do specially adapted Collective Training sessions online. Contact James [email protected] for details.

The Dublin Juvenile Committee has deferred all U-15 Football Championship matches until the Autumn. League activity for U-12 to U-16 will resume approximately a week after the shutdown ends with Go-Games schedules to follow.

While Weekly Lotto sales have been discontinued due to the Covid-19 outbreak the Members Lotto draws continue.

March 12 – 1/13/28/30 No Jackpot Winner – new Jackpot €5,200

March 19 – 3/8/20/29 No Jackpot Winner – new Jackpot €5,400

March 26 - 6/9/20/23 No Jackpot Winner – new Jackpot €5,600

Somerton remains closed indefinitely and in the interests of community solidarity the Club asks all members to respect that closure until restrictions are officially lifted.

Keep an eye on the Club’s twitter (@CastleknockGAA), facebook (@knockhfc) and instagram (castleknockgaa) for more details of Skills Challenges (such as T.J. Reid’s on facebook live and of course Ciaran Kilkenny’s on twitter) and have a look at the Down Memory Lane photos from Niall O’Connell and Maria Bergin.

Also be sure not to miss Mary Kilkenny demonstrating the new hurling Hand Pass Rule although it looks remarkably similar to the one John always used when he was playing. Keeping it in the family Ciarán has also been lending his voice to the #HomeTeam campaign organised by the GPA and WGPA and designed to encourage all of us to #StayAtHome.

So remember – Stay at home and keep your physical distance - that way we should all stay well.
