Keane: It was a sickener of a goal to concede

A dejected Peter Keane credited his Kerry players for fighting to the end and magnanimously congratulated Dublin on their 'historic achievement'.

Speaking to RTE’s ‘The Saturday Game’, the Kingdom boss stated: “Obviously we’re very disappointed, we came here with the intention to win and that didn’t happen but, that said, I’m extremely, extremely proud of the lads and the way they fought and fought and fought to the end. It just wasn’t to be.”

The sides went in level at the break on 0-10 apiece but Eoin Murchan’s goal straight from the second-half throw-in sent the Dubs on the road to victory.

“It was a sickener of a goal to concede just after half-time. At one stage in the first-half we were down five, we got our way back to level at half-time, conceded that but we got it back to two again.

“We had a few opportunities but just didn’t take them. Suppose then you are always trying to catch up at that point in time.”

He concluded: “At this point you have to congratulate Dublin on an historic achievement of winning five in-a-row.”
