Ciaran Kilkenny was emotional following Dublin history making exploits in Croke Park this evening and who can blame him!
With four points to his name, the Castleknock clubman will be one of the front runners for the ‘man-of-the-man’ accolade which is due to be announced later tonight and, speaking to RTE shortly after the final whistle, he enthused: “That’s the most special feeling I have ever felt in my whole life. So emotional.
“Such relief after the first game. Such a titanic battle. We have such respect for this Kerry team and to just get over the line means so much to this group.
“Grown men out there in tears. We are so proud of each other, our families and this county. What can I say – just delighted!”
Brian Howard was another star performer in the sky blue jersey and he said: “Going into the game we weren’t thinking about five in-a-row.
“We were looking at just taking it as any other game. Obviously it’s a special day for all of us involved.
“There’s some young lads, some old lads on the team. Some, the five-in-a-row, they’ve been there for all of them. Myself and a few younger lads have been there for 3, 2, 1 even so we’re still as hungry as ever.”
On his goal scoring exploits, Eoin Murchan said: "I can’t remember what happened with the goal, I just went for it and wanted to see what happened."
