Macauley and Byrne could lose their Dublin places

Michael Darragh Macauley and David Byrne could lose out when Dublin manager Jim Gavin announces his team for tomorrow's All-Ireland SFC semi-final against Mayo.

The Irish Independent is speculating that Macauley will make way in midfield for James McCarthy if Cian O'Sullivan is recalled at centre back. Macauley has been in fine form in this year's championship, but the Dublin management may opt to use him as an impact sub against James Horan's charges.

Meanwhile, Jonny Cooper's return to full fitness could see David Byrne lose his place in the full back line. It would be tough on Byrne who is the only player to have made five starts in this year's championship to date.

It remains to be seen if Diarmuid Connolly did enough in last Sunday's Super 8s dead rubber tie against Tyrone to earn a place on the subs bench.
