Official adult action started this weekend, our Senior footballers under new manager Barry Whelan

had a very good win vs Cuala at home, 2.17 to 2.08, unfortunately is wasn’t as good news for the

rest of the adult footballers, with the three others teams suffering home losses, disappointing but

we are sure they all will bounce back. Lots of new players and managements so a little time needed.

Better news for our hurling section with both minors team securing good opening victories. U14A+B

and 15A footballers all had good wins, full reports below. Adult Hurling next week see Adult hurling

report for next week’s fixture schedule.

Juvenile Football Report

There was a lot of juvenile football action this weekend with many of our younger groups making a

return to action for 2019.

The U-8s began their football journey with an away game against Kilmacud Crokes and a home game

against Ballinteer St. Johns. All the teams acquitted themselves very well in all of the games.

The U-9s also played Kilmacud Crokes away and had a home game against Crumlin.

The U-10s also had an away game against Kilmacud Crokes and a home game against Na Fianna.

Date: 16.02.2019

Venue: AGP 1

Opposition: Na Fianna

Competition: Boys U10 Football – Group 2.

Match Report:

On what was a lovely morning to get the season underway, Lucan Boys U10 footballers welcomed

Na Fianna footballers. With parents working hard to get pitches & goal post set up the scene

was set early for a good battle between 3 teams from each club. All 3 teams battled hard through it

the games and showed some great skills which they have been practicing in training. Some great

scores, passing, defending and team work were on display and in the end all agreed there is a lot to

look forward to for this group again in 2019. A Special thanks to all who helped with set up of goals

etc.

The U-11s played both Na Fianna and Clontarf at home in some very competitive games.

The U-12C team had their first outing of the year against Ballinteer St. Johns.

Date: 16.02.2019

Venue: Loreto Park, Nutgrove.

Opposition: Ballinter St. John's CLG

Competition: U.12 Football E Blitz, Group 1.

Final Score: Ballinteer St. John's 3: 05-04 (02-01), Lucan Sarsfield's: 01-05 (00-03).

This second round of matches saw this Lucan team have their first game as they had a bye in the last

round. In the first half Lucan had the advantage of the wind but were unable to score enough to

make it count.

The game was into the 11th minute before the first score was registered, by BSJ. This was down to

tenacious tackling and tight marking by a disciplined Lucan defence who turned the ball over legally

on a number of occasions. Eoghan Clarke marshaled the defence while making a number of

interventions and clearances himself. The midfielders Adam McMahon and Angad Dhaliwal held

their own while also driving deep into BSJ territory. The forwards tried hard with Robert Melvin

nipping in for a fine point.

The second half started well with Angad Dhaliwal driving at the BSJ defense and unleashing a shot

that the goalkeeper parried but unfortunately, for him, into Angad Dhaliwal's path which he

dispatched to the back of the net. Another point was added by Adam McMahon to tie it up but that

was as good as it got. BSJ went on the offensive and never looked in trouble after that. As a whole

the team kept trying until the final whistle and while they have plenty to work on they should be

proud of their first competitive football match as U.12s.

Scorers: Angad Dhaliwal: 01-01; Adam McMahon: 00-02; Robert Melvin: 00-01; Luke Martin: 00-01.

Squad: E. Whelan, A. Dhaliwal, E Delany, P. Devlin, L. Martin, A. Norman, L. Healy, E. Clarke, K.

Lucans U12 A football team made it two wins from two in their A blitz grading league with a good

performance against Ballinteer St Johns in St Catherines Park on Saturday. With both teams coming

off the back of impressive wins in their first league outings last week the match started off in

competitive fashion with every ball being contested fiercely. Lucan had elected to play against the

wind and had to work hard defensively in the early stages with James Dunne, Cian Gavin, Conor

Healy & Gavin Lynch to the fore. Both teams traded scores in the first quarter before a Lucan goal

from Michael O Brien edged them ahead. Lucan were working hard and as the half wore on were

edging most of the physical contests with Killian Costello & Daniel Taaffe dominating at midfield.

Some very good passing moves with quick transitioning of the ball from defence to attack resulted in

a number of good Lucan scores to put them in control at half time on a score of 3-7 to 0-4. With the

wind on their backs Lucan pushed on in the second half and although Balinteer kept fighting the

Lucan lads never let up putting in a very good performance with Patrick O Connor in good scoring

form and 10 different Lucan players getting on the scoresheet. Well done to all on a very good team

performance this weekend.

Lucan Team & scorers: E Flynn, C Gavin, C McCormick (1-0), C Healy, G Lynch, C Reilly, K Costello (0-

1), D Taaffe (0-3), K Quinn (2-0), M O'Brien (1-1), P O'Connor (1-6), O Brennan (2-0), J Mills (0-2), J

Dunne, A Leonard (0-2), D Horan (1-0)

In the U-13 Grading Football League Division 2, Lucan fell to a very strong St. Vincents team on a

score line of 1-18 to 1-04.

Date: 16 February 2019

Venue: St Anne’s Park

Opposition: St Vincent’s

Competition: Football Grading League Division 6

Final Score: St Vincent’s 4.04 - Lucan Sarsfield 2.05

Match Report:

A quick start saw Lucan scoring 1.01 in the opening 5 minutes. It was nip and tuck for most of the

first half however Vincent’s rallied with two late goals to lead by the minimum at half time. Lucan

Sarsfield’s missed a number of scoring chances in the first half despite the majority of possession.

The score board improved for Lucan in the second half with more frequent scores. The St Vincent’s

keeper was in inspired form and denied the Lucan forwards on a number of occasions. Despite the

loss, Lucan can take positives from the number of scoring opportunities they created and the overall

good approach play into their next grading game versus Malahide at home next week.

Squad: Jim O Reilly, Callum Wynne, Conor Dolan, Shane Dolan, Eoghan O Connor, Killian O

Connor, James Scott, Oisin Sharkey, Luke Gibbs, Conor Hartigan, Ryan Feighery, Aaron Cronin,

Mark Deignan, Rory Eagan, Maitiu Brennan, Dylan Carr, Cillian O Connor

Scorers: Rory Egan (1:00), Luke Gibbs (1:01), Aaron Cronin (0:03), Dylan Carr (0:01)

In the U-13 Grading Football Division 10 League, Lucan received a walk over as Whitehall Colmcille

could not field a team.

Date: 16/02/2019

Opposition: Ballyboden St Enda’s

Competition: U14 Football League Division 1

Final Score: 5-08 to 3-07

Lucan U14A’s started their league campaign with a hard fought win against Boden on Saturday

lunchtime. Lucan played the first half into a strong wind and concentrated on keeping possession of

the football. Two first half goals from Cillian Whelan and Daragh Lyons meant Lucan went in at the

break on level terms on a scoreline of 2-01 to 1-04. Ballyboden started the second half strongly and

after 10 minutes had opened up a 4 point lead with the aid of a penalty. Sarsfields against the odds

slowly fought their way back into the match and two goals from Cormac Coffey put them into the

lead. Goalkeeper Conor Greally found himself at the other end of the pitch and expertly dispatched

Lucan’s fifth goal into corner of the net. Boden got a consolation goal from another penalty, but

Sarsfields finished winners in the end by a seven point margin.

Squad:Conor Greally; Sean Carolan, Darragh O’Toole, Dan Kane; Ryan Clancy, Cathal Kennedy, Dara

Walsh; Daragh Lyons, Alex Derrien; Eoin Conheady, Charlie Mulqueen, Darragh Meehan; Paddy

Ryan, Cormac Coffey, Cillian Whelan. Sub Davy Mulqueen.

Scorers: Cormac Coffey 2-03; Daragh Lyons 1-02; Cillian Whelan 1-00; Conor Greally 1-00; Davy

Mulqueen 0-02; Charlie Mulqueen 0-01

Date: 16/2/2019

Venue:Bremore Park

Opposition: O'Dwyers 14A

Competition: U-14 Div 5 Boys Football

Final Score: O'Dwyers 0:0. Lucan 12:12

Lucan were the stronger team but they still had to play a tough game and the lads were very

impressive. The game was played 13 v 13 and so there was a lot of space to use and run into . Lucan

linked up really well from back to front and we were the fitter of the teams.

Congrats to them on their attitude and the effort they put in for the whole game!! Keeping a clean

sheet was very good. Lucan will move on to next week and try build on this with another good

performance.

There were a lot of different scorers and that was also a positive as the boys gain more experience.

The U-14 Division 10 game versus Naomh Mearnog did not take place as the opposition could not

field a team.

On a beautiful Spring morning, Marlay Park was looking splendid as Lucan travelled down the M50

to play Balllinteer St Johns. In truth, it was a game Lucan dominated from the throw in. Lucan had

3-06 on the board before Ballinteer registered their first point in the 24th minute. The inter play

from the lads ensured that they went in 3-07 to 0-02 ahead at half time. The second half saw Lucan

kick on from the half time break as Lucan continue to score with some fine free flowing football.

Ballinteer played better in the second half but not enough to ruffle the Lucan feathers as the lads ran

out easy winners in what was a good tonic for the lads to register their first win in the U15 ranks.

Squad: Cathal Doody, Jack Doyle, Eoin Kilduff, Joey McSweeney, Alex Hickey, Finn Bruton Zach

Templeogue Synge Street

Competition:

U16 Football Division 2

Final Score:

Lucan Sarsfields 0-10 – Templeogue Street 0-12

Match Report:

The U16A Footballers had their first home league match of the season against Templeogue Street.

Lucan began the first half at a blistering pace and went a couple of points ahead. However,

Templeogue began to claw their way back in it and we exchanged points in a low scoring first half

with Templeogue leading by 5 points to 4.

The second half began with Templeogue building on their lead and, playing with a strong breeze

behind them, built up a 4-point lead with 15 minutes to go. However, we began to build momentum

and came back to level scores in the dying minutes. We then had a couple of chances to win the

game but did not convert. Templeogue then latched on 2 points with the last two plays of the game

to win a very close contest.

We did not play to the same level as last week against Castleknock but still had a great chance to win

the game. Onwards and upwards.

Squad – Cathal Doody, Neil O’leary, Aidan Sheary, Cillian Morrissey, James Finn, Sean Harkness,

Stephen Ramsay, Rian Carey, Jamie Lavin, Samuel Keogh, Ciarán Scully, Jack O’Donnell, Sam Noctor,

Reece Lamphiere, Tony Mulqueen, Jack Lawlor, Adam Whyte, Matthew Coogan, Louis Butler.

The U-16 B team had a great win away to Kilmacud Crokes on a score line of 1-11 to 2-06.

Well done to all the teams competing at the weekend.

Adult Hurling Report

The competitive season commenced this weekend with both our Minor teams in opening round

league action and both recorded good wins - see match reports below. Next weekend our three

adult teams commence their league campaigns, starting with the Seniors who play Cuala in UCD at

7PM on Friday evening. Then on Sunday our Junior As travel to Swords to play St Finians, and the

Junior Bs are away to Ballinteer.

MHL Div1: Lucan Sarsfields 2-17 Raheny 0-6.

This was Lucan’s first competitive game of the year so important to get the win especially on home

ground. Playing with the wind on the first half, scorer in chief Matt Dunne had the first point on the

board within 10 seconds. Lucan backs were solid and dealt with any attack that Raheny tried to

muster throughout the first half, keeping Raheny scoreless for the first 30 mins. Mark Lavin lead the

charge from centre back delivering perfect ball to an ever industrious attack allowing Matt to find

the net twice in the first half to lead at halftime, 2-11 to 0-0. Raheny had more luck in the second

half with the aid of the breeze. Lucan found it difficult to create the same scoring opportunities as in

the first half adding only 6 points to their tally, with Raheny scoring the same.

Lucan Team

Luke Finnerty, Fintan Ward, Cian Duffy, Daire Murphy, Dylan Kelly, Mark Lavin. Philip Kane, Colm

Walsh, Alex Hanley, Charlie Keher, Colm Behan, Evan Dowling, Alan Lynch, Matt Dunne, Oisin

Ryan. Subs introduced: Jack Mc Carthy, Eoin Power, Mark Gormley, Cian Canavan.

MHL Div4: Kevins 1-3, Lucan Sarsfields 5-4.

Lucan Minor Bs had a positive start to Div 4 South in the opening fixture away in Dolphins Barn.

Kevins won the toss and played with a strong wind which helped them into a 1-1 lead. Cormac

Sharkey opened the scoring for Lucan on thirteen minutes when he found the net after being played

in by Charlie Casely. Oisin Twamley followed up with another goal ten minutes later. Lucan started

to take control of puckouts with Casely displaying excellent fetching skills to keep the pressure on

Kevins. Both teams added a further point before the break which left Lucan ahead by 2-1 to 1-2.

Lucan played with the wind in the second half and this added further distance to our clearances.

Mark Daly got the finishing touch following a decent save from Sean Balfe. Daniel Coogan put over a

free before scoring an impressive individual goal to put further distance between the teams.

Twamley and Balfe added further points before Cathal Shanahan found the net for our fifth goal

mid-way through the half. Ciaran O'Brien was very solid in the backs and although the ball wasn't

coming in as frequently as the first half, his concentration remained high and he linked well with the

other backs around him. This was a sound team performance with a good spread of scorers.

Lucan Team: J Mooney; A Smith, C O'Brien, S Egan; L Power, Rob Moloney, P Farrell; C Shanahan (1-

0), C Casely; O Twamley(1-2), D Coogan (1-1), S Balfe (0-1); S O'Leary, M Daly (1-0), C Sharkey (1-0); P

O'Leary, M Connolly, M Coogan.
