Meath will play Dublin in a challenge on December 16th

Dublin and Meath will play a senior football challenge on December 16th to raise funds for stricken Dunboyne clubman Sean Cox.

The former St Peter’s GAA club chairman remains in hospital with severe head injuries suffered when he was attacked by Roma supporters outside Anfield prior to Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final against Roma in April.

A number of fundraising initiatives have been organised to aid the Cox family and, according to The Irish Independent, rival managers Jim Gavin and Andy McEntee have been in regular contact with each other to facilitate a friendly meeting of the neighbouring counties at Pairc Tailteann next month.

While the details have yet to be finalised, the game is provisionally set for a 1:30 start, with the ladies of Meath and Dublin due to meet in a curtain-raiser at 11.30.
