Former Dublin goalkeeper Shane Supple could be in line for a shock Republic of Ireland senior international call-up.

The 2011 Dublin SFC winning St Brigid's captain caught the eye of Martin O'Neill when playing for Bohemians against Dundalk last week and the Derry man is considering inviting him into the squad for the upcoming friendlies with France and USA.

The 31-year-old turned his back on a professional career with Ipswich back in 2009 and was Stephen Cluxton's understudy with Dublin for a couple of seasons.

He continues to combine his gaelic football and soccer commitments and could be asked by O'Neill to help fill the void created by the unavailability of regular goalkeepers Darren Randolph, Rob Elliott and Keiren Westwood.

"I thought that Supple looks imposing as goalkeeper," O'Neill told the Irish Daily Star following yesterday's Scott Brown testimonial against Celtic in Parkhead.

"He was at Ipswich when Roy Keane was there, I think he walked in one morning and said at that time he just didn't fancy doing it, he wanted to go back, didn't he?

"He looked half-decent (against Dundalk). And it's also good for me to see players live."
