The Kingdom Men’s Shed travelled by train to Cork for a two-night stay. There they visited the famous English Market in the heart of the city, and some took the hop on hop off bus tour. Then on Wednesday it was on to the port of Cobh where they visited the Titanic Heritage Centre. The cruise liner, Norwegian Spirit, with 3,000 passengers and 1,300 crew had just docked that morning and the Shedders met many of those enjoying their first visit to Ireland. The liner departed that afternoon and that was a sight to be witnessed by some of the ex-fishermen from the Shed. Some took the ferry over to the famous Spike Island which was once used as a prison before shipping out to Van Dieman’s Land. On Thursday morning the group was taken to the Glen/Ballyvolane /Dublin Hill Men’s Shed where they were entertained by an ex- Regency Showband member to a senior men’s singalong. He remembered playing in Hilltown and Curran’s Hall Newcastle in the 1960s. After lunch it was back on the train to Dublin and Newry, another successful trip completed. (photo)
