A disappointing Reserve Football League came to a disappointing conclusion when Liatroim failed to field on Tuesday evening with the referee present at the pitch.

The u16 Camogs travelled to Dromara on Tuesday for a friendly match, a return fixture is being arranged.

In the Senior Camogie, An Ríocht were roundly beaten 0-6 to 8-10 by league leaders Ballycran. Our striking and handling were very poor and with two season defining matches coming up, Liatroim at Dunavil on 24th July and then Portaferry in the Championship on 7th August, we would need to concentrate on getting the basics right.

Catherine McGourty dictated the play at her leisure from the centre of the field and we made too many unforced errors and became frustrated which made our performance worse. Short passes to marked players with their backs to goal who were then bundled out of the way and possession lost meant the defence was continually overrun by waves of Ballycran counter attacks. We had chances to get more scores but indulged in unnecessary passing in front of the posts while at the other end we gifted Ballycran at least three goals with stray clearances straight to them and a fourth from a free. Also, they soloed forty yards past token tackles for three more goals and our keeper made three decent saves on top of that.

So, there’s a lot to do in a short space of time but that can focus the mind and it is still do-able if the will is there, that’s a question only each individual player can answer through her actions over the next few weeks.

In the u14 Camogie in Atticall, An Ríocht took our chances and won 10-3 to 5-0 after an entertaining affair between two well matched teams.

The Senior Footballers played Ballymartin on Thursday in a challenge.

Big thanks to Matthew from Legends Fitness for putting the KYC group through their paces and teaching some boxing techniques over the past two weeks as part of the BCPP supported IMPACT (Improving, Myself, Peers And Community Together) programme, the group and leaders really enjoyed it. This Wednesday is the first of a two sessions on Mental Health, Lifemaps gives practical ideas for improving youth mental health.

Highlight of the Summer Scheme was undoubtedly the visit from Kelly’s Mobile Roller Disco, so good it’s going to be repeated and the big trip was to Slieve Gullion Forest Park, always a favourite venue. Numbers were consistently high this past week with many young people who may not usually attend KYC coming along to enjoy the fun and educational programme on offer. Remember, to participate in any Summer Scheme activities, you must be registered (ie have completed a Summer Scheme Registration Form) at least one day in advance, you cannot register and participate the same day; registration can also be completed on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
